Damn I love this film. If the folks at CC mentioned a November 06 release I suppose we can expect it springtime then?
Wow, I might have to jump on that.

hmm, sounds like a good idea. Ive got one in perfect condition that would probably sell well. Though, is the new third man edition locked in?

Anyone know of a place that still has it in stock? I don't want to pay collector prices for it. Thanks.

Why not just wait for the reissue? This is undoubtedly a title that Criterion won't sit on for long.

Those Amazon buyers are tards. At Ebay, it's been selling for more realistic prices of around $30. I've noticed other jacked-up prices for OOP DVDs that these buyers keep falling for.

Next to Amazon buyers in terms of IQ level are the Amazon sellers. Every, I mean every, purchase I made from these people had problems with the item, delivery, payment, etc. I've used up all three of my Amazon Buyer Protection complaints on these people. I won't buy anything from them even if it's a Criterion Salo for 1 cent. I have NEVER had to file a single complaint at ebay. (Half.com, however, are full o' tards.)

I just noticed that the Third Man is missing from the list of criterion titles. Number 64, as of this morning, is absent. Suggests to me that they are in the process of updating it with the specs of the new edition. I think the May issues are coming.....

I'm assuming that's espionage czar Richard Clarke, right?

Why is this being resissued? Better transfer?

That and the addition of new special features.

Waited for a re-release for a long time. And it looks like it`s been worth the wait. Excellent cover and a list of really decent supplements. Looking forward to this one.

Great news. This looks like a stellar release. Now, if only the picture wasn't going to be windowboxed... it would be perfect.

It's a shame that MoC might release this some day and then there will be two versions.

EDIT: Oh darn, Anthony beat me to the lodging of the obligatory grievance against windowboxing.

As soon as this was announced today, amazon.com began selling copies of the old version, which for over a month now had been listed as unavailable (oop). Strange.

I'm very pleased with the new specs. I'm just as eager to upgrade this disc as I was Seven Samurai, Playtime, and Amarcord. Dana Poland is a good choice for the audio commentary, and the excellent Shadowing the Third Man doc is the full-length 90 minute version, not the 60 minute version that aired on TCM. Now let's just hope that "More!" turns out to be the pilot episode of the television program.

Incidentally, I stumbled across a site with all the Third Man radio shows for free download.

As to the DVD, it does look interesting. For a very brief moment, I was very excited about this one. Then, I realised there'll probably be an even better version (image wise) in HD soon enough. So, I'll probably hang on to my serviceable old R4 DVD for a little longer.

What a release! I think we can safely say this is the definitive reissue we've been waiting for. Fantastic that Shadowing the Third Man was included.

Will definitely be grabbing this. Early contender for best reissue of '07 no doubt.

Though there are no formal reviews or screengrabs online that I can find, I've read in certain forums that the currently available Optimum Region 2 2-DVD set has an excellent transfer (superior to the old Criterion). It also features the SHADOWING THE THIRD MAN documentary.

Can anyone vouch for the quality of the Optimum?

Wonderful news! When Criterion does re-issues, they all make sense and are worth it! Most companies simply repackage and raise the prices.

I have a Canal+ French version which has the Shadowing The Third Man documentary, which I found to be reasonably good. The anecdotes from the continuity editor and another person involved in the making of The 3rd Man were mostly interesting. And it was fun at times to watch scenes of the film projected on some of its original locations and surrounding environs. The transfer I have of the film itself looks good, but is full screen. Though mine is a 2-disc box set (a digipak that folds open to have three leaves) bought ina dark alleyway from a Chinaman with eyepatch and parrot.

????? You used to seeing a 'scope THIRD MAN?

Hopefully those widescreen versions of THE THIRD MAN remain hard to come by.

Looked like there was some cropping on the right hand side, judging by the titles. Maybe I'm wrong.
