i liked the old, simple cover [just the island and the sea] for the #12: the naked island a lot better than the new one.

I am sorry to say it, but i find the new one to be a mess of different images, mixed and overlaid into a messy collage of nothing.

Okay, we'll change it back!

Personally, I really didn't like the first one (it seems particularly bland and unattractive, plus the font looked silly), but the second is very nice. I'm usually repulsed by messy collage, so I understand where you're coming from, but it really strikes me as fairly simple. There don't appear to be more than four or so different images. Ah well, to each their own... but I hope the new one stays.

Now that I think about it, when I think of the film a collage seems appropriate. So many scenes and shots that stick out.

was it intentional that the island sort of looks like part of the hat?

Hehe, I didn't necessarily mean you in particular.

As far as I know I've never made an error in a submission. I always try to fill out all the possible info. I always link to where I got the info etc. And yet I still get my submissions rejected with bullshit excuses, like the release date being too far in the future for it to be added to the database now. Brilliant excuse when there are many titles in the base that haven't even been announced yet. Then two weeks later some moron adds the title and all the info he adds is the IMDb number.

Why do I waste my time?

Now MoC's The Idiot is a special case because non region 1 titles are only accepted when they have a cover picture. That's the rule and I know it. I added it anyway because I thought the cover was gonna be posted soon. Apart from the rule, whats really stopping you from accepting the submission now? It's not like there's any confusion about what release it is.

Nick, I hope your not serious. Your doing all the hard work, go with your instinct on what is good or not... there are many film buffs on here, but alas that does not necessarily make them good commentators on design!
I for one have been impressed with what you've produced so far!

We have no intention of changing it back. Couldn't resist dropping some English humour into proceedings, but it came across as "amauteurish" (sic), "knee-jerk", and "sarcastic"! --- Oh well.

Nice Work!

Hmm...the first impression I got looking at the new Vengeance is Mine cover with the 18 certificate logo and all was that I was being shown a soft core film...

Maybe I'll grow to love this one but right now I'd much prefer the old cover.

Okay, I keep out of these cover discussions as a rule but I could not disagree w/ Annie more on this one. The Vengeance Is Mine cover is one of the most wonderfully striking examples of the form I've witnessed. Nothing you can do about those silly certificate logos, but there's always a downside to socialism.

I... I... I just don't understand how this could have happened, but for the 1st time in my history on the forum, I actually had the same reaction to something as Annie, and it turns out Ben and I have different opinions of something.

This... this feels so unsettling. I... I... never thought this could happen. My... my entire world has been turned upside down. What am I going to do now? I... I feel so lost. I... I don't even know myself anymore. I'm going to have to rethink some of my recent positions to figure out if I've been of a sane mind lately. Perhaps The Son and Two or Three Things I Know About Her aren't as good as I thought they were? No, that can't be. I have to sit down. Wait, I'm already sitting down. Where am I again?

I misjudged a grounder and got smacked by a softball earlier this week during a softball game, but all I have is a black eye and the doctors said nothing else was wrong. What if they were wrong, or missed something? Maybe it resulted in serious damage that they didn't diagnose correctly? Wh...whu... what's going to happen to me now? Is there something I can do to reverse these effects? I... I just don't know what to do anymore.

None of this makes any sense. I have to take a closer look at that cover-art again.

It's pretty disturbing how straightforwardly the cover depicts what Enokizu is doing to the woman; I would guess that it was meant to be so. In any case, even if doesn't look like something I'd want to display proudly on my shelf, it is honest packaging in that it gives some small hint of the brutality explored in the film.

Don't worry Andre, I'm just a woman hating thug, ask my girlfriend*. Hell, I want a full-sized theatrical poster and t-shirt.

*I did once make a misogynist rap favorites mix-tape for an ex who thought she was all cool and shit and she couldn't deal. Who gets upset by The Afros?

I love the Assassination cover. The yellow and black looks great.

The new cover for The Idiot is up now, too:

The "Idiot" cover should perhaps mention Yoshiko Kuga -- especially since she appears on it (and she does have a rather crucial role).

Yeah - she's being added

It's a great looking cover -- and I suspect that "Idiot" could inspire quite a few other impressive ones (what a stunning looking film -- and I can't wait to see this in "restored" form)..

The Idiot text looks a little too plain to me.

But overall, I love the cover designs. Very nice work.

I noticed that quite a few of the covers feature an image of people touching or being touched.

Two more (tiny) covers at the website, with spine #23 & #26.

Can't quite make them out myself...

#26 appears to be 'The Savage Innocents' by Nicholas Ray.

Right you are... Now for the other one. I don't recognise the artwork, and can't make out the title either. It looks like Fauff, and doesn't look like Faust or Faux to me. Surely someone (if not peerpee) could help...

That would be the original poster art for Murnau's Faust. Here's a black and white version I found searching the net.

And here's a smaller color version:

Pretty cool stuff (hooray for original poster art), and it's always nice to see more Murnau.
