I will be very surprised if CC doesn’t continue to release stand alones, especially the two you mentioned.

I guess the big thing now is to wait and see if any of the special features aren't ported over.

Which means—haha—that everyone will have to own All These Women.
I'll take it over most of his films tbh.

Torn about this one. I have all the Bergmans I want save for Hour of the Wolf but if all the existing Bergman titles in the CC get 4k restos if they haven't already had them, I might take the plunge. The reality is though, there is so much else I want and importing has become prohibitively expensive for stuff like this, so it may remain a case of, would be nice to have but pass.

I can't remember for sure, but I may have voted for it on our Bergman list. I haven't seen it since it was up on Hulu, but as a fun bit of aesthetic stupid I got a huge kick.

It seems pretty clear to me that we're only getting the Theatrical Version of SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE here- which is pretty disappointing considering both versions of FANNY AND ALEXANDER are included and that no one has any business watching the truncated version of SCENES.

But a minor gripe! Will happily pick up the SCENES disc considering what a savings the $300 MSRP is for the set!

It's basically a $160 Blu-ray of Winter Light for me.

I have no idea of what I'll do with the Bergman releases I already bought, but seeing this is $100 cheaper than the Olympic Games set is just too cheap to pass on, especially with the number of movies included AND the retention of the extras.

By the way this will be less than $5 a film at the BN sale.

The "also" in the wording makes it sound like both are included, but it isn't clear. Also the default listing Criterion uses for the film is the miniseries one

mfunk9786 wrote: Thu Jul 12, 2018 7:34 pm Can anyone check their Barnes & Noble receipt for the Virgin Spring Blu-ray to see if it says "SUCKER" on it?
So glad I unsealed it just a few days ago to check on the missing essay issue, thereby devaluing it for resale

Agreed. I imagine we'll get some clarification on this in the future.

Hah! I bought virgin spring last night!

They mention a making of feature for Magic Flute, I wonder if an upgrade of the mainline release is the next on deck then?

Even during the B&N sale this will cost a fortune in Reais (US$1 = R$3,9), and it'll undoubtedly be taxed (60%) once customs get a hand on it, but it might be the only way for me to ever own The Passion of Anna and The Serpent's Egg on Blu-ray, unless BFI have the rights in the UK.

I like that they correctly titled “Waiting Women” instead of the bad fifties porny “translation” “Secrets of women”

Trailer for the set - over 30 hours of extras seems to confirm they'll be carrying over all the on-disc content

Yes, I'd call it his first "Great" film, and when else will it get a Blu-ray release if not now?

Relevant passage from the press relase:
Additionally, Criterion will be releasing a series of Blu-ray editions of some of Bergman's most essential films, beginning with upgrades of The Virgin Spring (now available) and Scenes from a Marriage (available September 4) and continuing with new editions of Shame and The Magic Flute, as well as a Blu-ray upgrade of the box set A Film Trilogy by Ingmar Bergman: "Through a Glass Darkly," "Winter Light," and "The Silence.”

I've been so slow buying blu rays over the years that this might actually be worth it for me (I think I have four Bergman blus). Plus I never had to commit to the Cries and Whispers cover...
