Thanks for the information. Good thing I did not order the Region B set which was also more expensive even before adding the shipping cost.

Does the Arrow set have the short, Le Cravate, that’s on this release? There seem to be a few differences

The deluxe box set is loaded with extras and ephemera, including a 78-page book with photos and essays, a set of art cards, and 2 CDs. It also has movies!
Does anyone know/expect if this will be receiving a "standard edition" release from either Arrow or abkco? I'd love to have the movies on blu-ray, but could do without all the extras and additional $$$.

Following the usual MO, if it sells out fast enough, there will be a subsequent standard re-release. Otherwise, it's less likely.

I'd be surprised if El Topo at least didn't get a re release, they could probably bank on that being a good seller at £15 even how expensive it is to pickup ATM.

I don't know where HernandoBiggies' info came from, but all I could find was a Deep Discount listing for the US ABKCO release with that date. Arrow's release seems to show no indication of having been delayed further.

Amazon.com were listing it as 18 Sept, but now it seems to have disappeared entirely.

The ABKCO site also lists the September date.

Mentioning that you were referring to the ABKCO release would likely’ve saved the confused response to your post, seeing as this thread’s for the Arrow edition ; )

I got the Arrow set today. It looks exquisite. Finally, really solid images for these movies, with great color, with nice grain structure. Holy Mountian and Fando & Lis look really, really sharp.
El Topo has options for 1.85:1 and 1.37:1 versions. I saw this at the Egyptian theater twice, and I'm not sure which aspect ratio I saw. I wonder why the two options are here. I've only looked at each briefly, skimming through. I don't think the quality is any different between the two versions.

I was wondering about the aspect ratio issue a few days ago, and
found this:
El Topo is presented in 1:33 aspect ratio as it was shown in theaters in 1970. It is also available for the first time in 1.85:1 widescreen. Jodorowsky originally envisioned the film with this aspect ratio as an homage to Sergio Leone, and a half century later, that dream has finally been fulfilled.

That's interesting. They appear to have just opened up the sides of the frame. It doesn't dramatically change what is there, although the compositions look a lot looser with the extra space.

I received the Arrow UK set and just wanted to point out the set is region free (or at least region A/B). When sticking it in a region B player, the disc opens with the copyright warning, followed by the Arrow logo, the ABKCO logo, and then jumping to the menu, which has the Arrow colour bar marking at the bottom.
On region A players, it opens with the copyright warning and then jumps immediately to the main menu without the Arrow colour bar marking at the bottom. Basically, on region A players any reference to Arrow appears to have been removed.

I just received my copy too. Of course I jumped straight to El Topo to check out the two aspect ratios. The 1.85:1 framing does open up more space on the side and crops the top and bottom. In the 1.37:1 version, the sizing and placement of the credits suggest that the film was originally intended for widescreen projection. They look much better composed in the widescreen version.
It looks great, by the way!

Does anyone know if the booklets are the same too? I’m trying to decide which edition to buy and it would be helpful to know.

It would be interesting to see if the ABKCO release shows the Arrow Menu in a region B player. The releases might be using the same discs.
