That's fine. I didn't investigate further & since my 2006 was full with 8+ (and 2007 only 1/2 so) I was hoping for the best.

Please add:
Sam Garbarski¡s Irina Palm
Alison Eastwood's Rails & Ties
Gregory Nava's Bordertown
Marc Forster's The Kite Runner
Ayelet Menahemi's Noodle
Jan Sverák's Vratné lahve / Empties
Teresa Prata's Terra Sonâmbula / Sleepwalking Land
Semih Kaplanoglu's Yumurta / Egg
Srdan Golubovic's Klopka / The Trap
Claude Berri's Ensemble, c'est tout / Hunting & Gathering

Just watched The Banishment last night (it's on Kanopy), had no idea about this one (or that it was the same director as The Return (2003) & Leviathan (2014)) & was blown away. Just wanted to plug it so it doesn't end up an orphan. Andrey Zvyagintsev is becoming one of my favorite contemporary directors, can't wait for Minotaur to be released.

RR (James Benning)
Observando el cielo (Jeanne Liotta)
Blonde Redhead: The Dress (Mike Mills)
Spider (Nash Edgerton)
Bend Sinister (Paul Clipson)
Tamala's Wild Party (t.o.L.)

Seconding the Liotta. I generally like Clipson but haven't seen "Bend Sinister". Any hints about how to find it?

I only know of it being on back channels tucked away in a compilation among other early films of his. Tuolumne from this year is also good and easier to find

Can you add Futurama: Bender's Big Score? Thanks.

Didn't realize Rita Azevedo Gomes's A 15ª Pedra (aka The 15th Stone) was 2007. If you can add this at the last minute here I'll have to do an 11th hour revision of my list.

Added. And in case anyone needs a reminder, lists are due today

25 lists submitted

Interesting. My list was relatively short. I see a lot of films here I have seen but simply didn’t like enough to add.

Who’s the Live Free or Die Hard fan?

Also, why am I the only one who voted for Retribution? Did people think it belonged to 2006?

I have to disagree with No Country over There Will Be Blood. As much as like the former, the latter is an all-time favorite, my #1 of the decade. Given that TWBB landed at #1 in 6 individual lists, to NCfOM's 2, I predict There Will Be Blood will land higher when it comes time for the decade list.

Thanks to the other three voters for Walk Hard! A small part of me hoped it would miraculously be #1, so we could have this gif stamped on the site.

I feel more disconnected from this list than any other so far. I’ve seen all but one from the top 10, but only 4 of those made my list, and none from the top 3.

Thanks swo!

1. Margot at the Wedding
2. Zodiac
3. No Country For Old Men
4. There Will Be Blood
5. Youth Without Youth
6. Planet Terror
7. Michael Clayton
8. The Darjeeling Limited
9. Boarding Gate
10. Cassandra’s Dream

Glad to see La recta provincia make the main list! It barely escaped my top ten

Nice! I like it a lot, but not that much. Probably my favorite of the sequels, though.

It is a film that, for all its flaws, is one I return to once a year or so to marvel at its ingenuity and creativity (in that this movie generously gives us three of the most outlandish and wildly inventive action scenes in the history of the genre)

And as a professed Coen skeptic, I still rate No Country higher than There Will Be Blood (if only just barely). For me it’s the only film from them that fully works, and they get out of the way of the material and make one right choice after another. But Michael Clayton is better than both

Where the eff is our Margot Blu?!

Also thank you swo!

Toland's Mitchell wrote: Thu Oct 01, 2026 9:34 pm I have to disagree with No Country over There Will Be Blood

These results were interesting. The same number of people voted for both films. TWBB received several more #1 votes but in spite of that, NCFOM had several more top 10 votes. Based on how people voted, if the question were just which is better out of the two films, the winner would be the Coens by 13-8 (though 4 people voted for neither so I can't tell their preference)

I voted for neither and prefer the Coens.

14-8 then!

But I also prefer Zodiac, which I also didn’t vote for, to both of those.
