Re: Alexander
I actually like Alexander very much, but the theatrical cut is still my favorite.

Re: Alexander
I always thought that Alexander might have been something had Stone not cast Farrell and excised the Jolie stuff altogether. I suppose it's possible to do the latter with a new cut, but the former will still probably remain an elusive goal.

Re: Alexander
Stone seems to want to do a "Kingdom Of Heaven" here, a critically panned original cut which was vastly improved with a director's cut.
Just seems that Stone is not getting it right each time...
I've not seen "Alexander". Does anyone think there's a possibility of making a version that would increase the status of the film to a 'masterwork' or is it just flawed to begin with?

I don't think its flawed and the full cut is pretty fun, but there's just nothing great to the movie. There's no masterwork potential here.

Re: Alexander
I'm surprised WB is even giving Oliver the opportunity to do this, didn't the fallout from this burn his bridges with them?

Unbelievably, a fourth cut prepared by Stone is forthcoming: the "Ultimate Cut"

Equally unvelievable is that it's being listed as 2x BD25s.domino harvey wrote:Unbelievably, a fourth cut prepared by Stone is forthcoming: the "Ultimate Cut"

At this point, I'm going to assume the "ultimate" is figurative.

Re: Alexander
But the last cut was called "The Final Cut" ... if Oliver Stone lied about that, what else has he lied about? Maybe it was Oswald all along.

Surely you weren't expecting some kind of "magic Blu-ray"

When it reaches stores, the new Blu-Ray will be stocked back... and to the left.

Re: Alexander
Well if Warner can do BD50s for the Ultimate Casablanca, the Ultimate Wizard Of Oz, etc. it doesn't seem like it requires much magic to do it for the Ultimate Alexander, or maybe that's what they'll finally use on the Penultimate Alexander box set with all 5 versions of the film (including the unreleased 3-D version too).domino harvey wrote:Surely you weren't expecting some kind of "magic Blu-ray"

When you have lemons.....or should I say there is no lemon too sour for Warner that it can't squeeze into another opportunity to repackage an old "property", complete with direct-to-landfill tchotchkesflyonthewall2983 wrote:I'm surprised WB is even giving Oliver the opportunity to do this, didn't the fallout from this burn his bridges with them?

Re: Alexander
They probably wanted to no longer have a 2-disc blu-ray release. Easier to re-sell in compilation box sets and the like when the film is on one disc.
