I prefer Criterion to Anchor Bay for the most part. I am well aware of the Divimax transfer by Anchor Bay, but it doesn't have the Gilliam commentary track, so that cancels it out for me.

I wonder if the new anamorphic edition will be packaged in the same way as the original one. It is also time to ask Mulvaney if they will take replacement orders...

does anyone else have a problem with their director's cut disc? Mine freezes when they're coming up on the elevator...and it won't play...i can only skip ahead and even then i cant go back to that point without it freezing.

I guess is your copy. Mine is fine.

The single disc edition is a nice move. This way we can upgrade the transfer without having to buy the unchanged extras again.

they should have something set up where we can send them just the disc of our box set and get just the disc of the new one in return. I'd even pay $10-15 for this.

Jun Dai, I guess you were proven wrong only a year after the fact :O. It seems kind of morbid that they are re-releasing this, but I guess an anamorphic transfer won't hurt.

As far as I can tell, they're not "updated" either. "New, pristine widescreen transfer of Terry Gilliam's 142-minute final cut" is the way they described the old transfer. It will say something about "high-definition" or "anamporphic" when they update. They still have the old box art up too.

Image website indicates it's a high definition transfer. And certainly it will be anamorphic, unlike the original.

Yes, is a new transfer. The single disc edition gets spine #351.

so Brazil becomes the first Criterion film on dvd to have two spine numbers?

I cant think of a better choice.
