As The Fanciful Norwegian noted above, there's a beautiful Japanese DVD of City of Sadness, to which one can add readily available subs.
City of Sadness is certainly a masterpiece. I may have learned more about Taiwan and its human beings from this film than from any other. And that's a tall order, given all the other human masterpieces out of Taiwan.
Criterion, please release City of Sadness and some of Hou's other films like Millennium Mambo on Blu-ray. PLEASE.
