Interesting. Well, you could argue the whole project reeks of revisionism, regardless of color correction, so a few deliberate changes here and there in color doesn't seem too alarming.

BTW, the new transfer does look DAMN good in DVDBeaver's screen grabs.

It is extremely alarming considering that this is *supposed to be* the 1992 cut, in contrast to whatever he does with the final edit.

He has consistently contradicted himself in regards to his intentions on this film, to a point where even his earlier collaborators on the project have called him out on BS. I was very pleased to hear the '92 cut would show up in the new set, because if Scott goes nuts (as he usually does) and unnecessarily alters the film in ways that were never intended (Alien, Legend, etc.), at least I would have the earlier cut to fall back on based off his original notes.

The fact that he is already altering previous versions of the films, thereby diminishing their relevance and impact, is quite disturbing and unfortunate. Over on the Home Theater Forum, they have already found several alterations, which should have been reserved for the final edit. The one that really bothers me, so far, is the change of the factory flames exterior from dark to bright orange. That was one of my favorite shots in the film, due to it's striking contrast.

Once again he's trying to sneak "corrections" under the radar and past the fans, so my confidence in his next cut of the film is already dropping again.

Of course it's B.S. Regardless of what he does, you see this argument everywhere, not just in film but in music too...can Ridley Scott in 1992 truthfully claim that he's changing a film to the intentions of Ridley Scott in 1982 anymore than Ridley Scott in 2006?

You do have a point, if this is the 1992 cut, then he ought to leave it like the 1992 cut. On the other hand, if the changes are limited to color adjustments in 1 or 2 shots, it's tough to get worked up over them. Well, you said it was one of your favorite shots, so in a case like that I understand, but if Iggy Pop went back to his 1997 remix of Raw Power and changed the EQ on about 5 seconds worth of music, I wouldn't lose any sleep. I wish he wouldn't, but again....

I'm midway through watching it, and something just hit me. This may be a long shot, but is the tunnel that Deckard drives through while listening to the Leon interrogation tape the same tunnel used in Heat late in the film when DeNiro is driving away?

he completely remixed the whole thing... I mean the original was so poorly mixed (by a fearful Bowie, nonetheless) complete with background sword sounds and idiotic slide-tube-guitar-reverb-effects... Iggy's remix returned Raw Power to what it should have been: a violent, distorted wasteland of an album that never exits the red-zone... (it's just too bad that Bowie made Pop change several of the lyrics, though)

as long as Scott presents the original cuts, I'm fine with him recutting whatever he wants (unlike one mr. Lucas)

Could be. That tunnel has been used a lot. I also think it is the same one that Will Smith runs through in Enemy of the State.

Apparently it was a long shot, the tunnel in Heat doesn't have the curve on top the one in Blade Runner does. Which is just as well, Michael probably went to alot of trouble not to shoot anywhere in L.A. that's already been seen in film before.

Over at DavisDVD, they are reporting that Ridley Scott may currently be in the process reshooting some scenes for the forthcoming DVD.

That's the Australian release, and probably only one of several permutations of packaging. Also, those aren't official specs from Warner, and may not be final.

All this is perfect, and I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but what about the NTSC American version? Any news on that?

This will be the Hi-Def release of the year to be sure. I can't wait.

I'm sure Ridley will do commentary, my best guess is that if he doesn't do so on all versions (which is likely), he'll do it for this new Final Cut.

Supposedly a commercial for something Blade Runner related (not sure if it's the theatrical re-release or the DVD set) will air tonight during the AFI Top 100 list special.

Rumor has it that it's going to be trailered on the DVD for 300 as well.

Just saw it. At the end, it has the legend Blade Runner: The Final Cut.

Watching that trailer gave me goosebumps; very very cool. It really made me want to watch the film again, but I think I'll wait until I can sink my teeth into the whole enchilada. Has anyone actually figured out what all the new stuff is? According to someone on the Moebius board, the nude dancers have never been included in the film but were in the workprint. And it appeared to have some shots of the much-discussed reshot Joanna Cassidy footage.

I think the only 'new' footage is the Joanna Cassidy reshoot, with the rest coming from outakes/the workprint cut.

I also think this trailer is simply a teaser and they wont be showing the interesting stuff from the final cut until later.
