Not every movie, just every Paul Thomas Anderson movie - the guy is just great to listen to.
He absolutely is. Too bad he can't be as commentary unshy as Steven Soderbergh. But then again, I'm sure P.T. would rather focus his energy on making better movies, not chatting over every one he sees.

That teaser is wonderful, and completely unlike anything I've seen come from a major studio in a while. I especially appreciate the fact that there's no pounding music and rapidly accelerating editing. It reminds me a lot of the trailer for The New World, and it seems that Anderson has absorbed some of Malick's style for his new effort.
Jon Brion is the most intriguing piece of the puzzle for me; I've always enjoyed his scores but they all have a very "modern" feel. Similarly, Anderson has used modern pop music to such good effect in his films that I wonder how he'll deal with not being able to rely on pop music - of course, he could always pull an O Brother, Where Art Thou? out of his sleeve and use period music to amazing effect.

Really impressed by the teaser. I honestly didn't think studios would be able to produce, much less finance, these kinds of films anymore. Thank you, PTA. Thank you.

One of the very few bright lights in modern filmmaking. PTA has said that Magnolia will be the best film of his entire career I think he may have outdone himself here. I think he will be one of the very few filmmakers of this era who will be remembered.

"Absorbed" is an interesting way to put it...
For a thread that started out with

this has certainly turned into a year-long, two page lovefest. I can't be the only dissident here, can I?

He has also absorbed Malick's production designer, Jack Fisk.

Jack Fisk seems to be the coolest guy around...
not only is he IN Eraserhead (and childhood friends with Lynch... and prod. designer for Straight Story and Mulholland Dr.)... but he is also married to Sissy Spacek...
the only other Production Designer this cool is K.K.Barrett, who was a (main) member of the Screamers (one of the first LA punk bands... who also sported synth's instead of guitars)

And get this: David Lynch was once married to Jack Fisk's sister, Mary Fisk. They had a child named Austin Lynch. Austin directed the
Making of The New World documentary that appeared on the DVD. He recently directed
The Making of There Will Be Blood. To the best of my knowledge, Kevin Bacon is in no way involved in any of these enterprises.

Don't worry, Polybius. You aren't.

I've got reservations as well. But the trailer has me very excited. It has struck me that this film might mark Anderson's maturation as an artist. We shall see.

This actually looks quite interesting. I think this movie will be of the love-it-or-hate-it variety.

Pretty much like the rest of P.T. Anderson's work.

My god, I simultaneously can't wait for and have mixed feelings about this film. On one hand it could be a massive-screw up, and on the other hand it could be fantastic. I have the script on my hard drive (along with The Darjheeling Limited), and I'm honestly trying my hardest to not read past the twenty pages I've already gone through.
A guy digs a hole, his horse dies, and he builds a makeshift oil rig
The only thing I'm hoping is that he doesn't produce something like Magnolia, which was lumpy and unfocused (in comparison to both Boogie Nights and Punch-Drunk Love, neither of which could have had a minute cut off).

Punch-Drunk Love seemed like it had 15-20 minutes cut-off already.

Holy fuck! That looks amazing. This is going to be a huge, breakout performance for Paul Dano. Those clips remind me Will Oldham's work in
Matewan. Also, inspired choice by P.T. Anderson to get Jonny Greenwood on board for the original music.
I can't wait for this.
Dang, that teaser is phenomenal.
Apparently, both Anderson and the Coens are concurrently using the same Texas town to shoot their next films. Both are also using local residents in the cast:

I hope this is good. I think the trailer gave too much away, but you never know with a PTA flick. Any news on the running time?

the PT Anderson site has a projectionist saying it's eight reels long, so that's around 160 mins right?

If they are 8 full reels, yes... but reel changes often go a bit shorter for proper splicing points... or the last reel could be markedly shorter.

Hmm. Hopefully the film is rhythmically closer to the original teaser that was posted, I wasn't so captivated by the full trailer. I'm sure the film will be great though.

Last I knew, that ES record was self-recorded.
