The VHS I used to rent of the pilot in the early 90s at this long-gone video store was distributed by Prism entertainment. They also had "The Chinese Web" episode, but I think I only rented that once. Funny though, even at five I distinctly remember finding the music hilariously funky, and I still remembered it while watching that clip today.

It's almost as if they were trying to turn Spider-Man into Shaft.

Yeah, it's live action. I think it was actually intended as a pilot, and it is fairly campy, but it's still kind of neat that it was done.

The Flaming Lips song is called "Spiderman vs. Muhammad Ali"!!! It HAS to rule. It just has to.

The soundtrack was produced by Dave Sardy (Walkmen, LCD Soundsystem, Oasis, Wolfmother).

So far, the only song that's available is the Snow Patrol one, which can be streamed below. "Vidicated" is so much better.

with the assult of footage and marketing, is anyone else at the "who cares" point?

granted, the last thing i want to see is another comic book movie. i despise them at this point. they are a waste of time, energy and resources. however, if there is one franchise that has enough clout to pull me back into the theater, it's spider-man 3 (i think i'm still bitter that the studio didn't go for naming spider-man 2 "the amazing spider-man." this one could have been "the spectacular spider man," but i digress).

but with the massive amount of exposure, it feels like i've already seen the entire movie. if i don't catch a matinee, i'll likely catch it on dvd, or forget about it entirely.

when will this comic book movie tripe end?

LP? When's the last time that happened to a recent soundtrack? I wonder who dreamed up putting Black Mountain on the soundtrack, though.

Until this trailer I was convinced that Venom wouldn't even show up in the film, as all the other trailers really put emphasis on Sandman. I kinda figured
the story would revolve around Peter dealing with the violent nature of the symbiote suit and the end would have Eddie Brock acquiring it.

I saw it a few hours ago, and it was alright. the extended sequence where the venom symbiote first binds with Peter was the best part by far.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of pop songs in the soundtrack, it was heavy on the strings all the way through and only deviates for jazz or oldies as far as I remember.

Spider-Man 3 is a big, fat dud. It was too long, too sappy, and worst of all: boring (including the few action scenes). EmoPeter had some funny moments though, some intentionally, some not.

Overcooked. Predictable. Silly. But, also overwhelmingly entertaining, with great acting and some winning moments of humour and heartfelt drama.

I was very disappointed, but at least most of the scenes about Peter, Mary Jane and Harry worked for me. Here's hoping Raimi takes a break, a long hard look at Spider-Man 3 and gives it a proper send off with 4 some years down the line. I have no idea what was going through the minds of critics who said this movie wrapped up everything in the series. If anything, all it did was overstuff the Spider-Man universe with plotlines to be picked up in later sequels. Too much time spent on that, too little on what character development the main plot needed.

What's so disappointing about this movie is how easy it is. Peter faces a number of emotionally complex problems, all of which are resolved so conveniently and with so little effort that one wonders if it was all worth it. I'm thinking especially of the weepy old Butler who, as far as I can tell, shows up in just this one movie and whose only point is to tell Harry Osborn the truth (years later?) so that he can turn good at the last minute. Nevertheless, the movie is unwilling to sustain the complicated relationship between Harry and Peter so Harry is killed off in a predictable fashion.

Peter and Sandman also get a lugubrious scene where they shed mutual tears (a guy made of sand can cry?) and forgive each other, which, although well handled, was a far too easy resolution.

The movie also missed its chance with Eddie Brock, who was at best a tangential character, and yet could have been, as the movie hints, an opposing double for Peter demonstrating the negative effect of refusing to accept personal responsibility. Trite as that sounds, it's clear Brock is unwilling to see his debasement as the result of his decision to forge that picture and instead fixes his anger on a proxy: Peter. Could have been more interesting than it ultimately was.

Topher Grace made a nice villain as his sneering sarcasm and mocking tone made him easy to hate. The scene in the church, however, was utterly ridiculous. The idea of Brock pleading with God to, of all things, kill Peter Parker is nonsensical (and it doesn't help that Grace is unable to sell the moment); and, anyway, it turns out as merely a convenient ploy to place Brock near Spiderman when the latter rips off the symbiote. Brock goes investigating when he hears Peter's screams, yet the priest we see in the long shot is not similarly concerned by the horrific sounds ringing through his church? Maybe he thought he had demons in his belfry and went to hide in his chambers, which would have been a nice touch and not altogether innappropriate.

I thought Spiderman was a bad movie, but I was pleased with Spiderman 2 despite its flaws--flaws which I would have liked to see corrected in Spiderman 3. But the movie isn't focussed enough and becomes too diffuse and ultimately lazy. It needed a better script.

Bruce Campbell was a riot, tho'.

For those who've seen it, is it true that they pulled a bit of revisionist history by somehow making it so that the Sandman killed Peter's Uncle? I read a review that said it was clumsily pulled off.

He did indeed. And, yeah, it made no sense. You can kind of tell the makers thought so, too, because the explanation is tossed off as an aside as though they hope you won't notice.

Reminds me of Joker killing Batman's parents in Burton's movie. You'd think Lucas wrote it.
