Pierrot news said they hope to start working on it soon, but no date is formalized.
The Marienbad news is direct from Rialto. I assume the DVD will come late 08 early 09. We'll see when Criterion puts out 2 or 3 Things.

Before the year is out we probably be getting Classe tous risques, and the rest in 2008/09.

I bet Classe tous risques is part of the NEW WAVE month -- though not in the box.
Also, I compiled a list of all the Rialto releases that were later released on Criterion DVD. I have then grouped by year.
TITLE, RELEASE MONTH, DVD RELEASE MONTH, TOTAL MONTHS IN BETWEEN
1997
CONTEMPT (July) (12/02) (65)
1998
GREY GARDENS (April) (8/01) (40)
NIGHTS OF CABIRIA (July) (9/99) (14)
1999
PEEPING TOM (January) (11/99) (10)
THE THIRD MAN (May) (11/99) (6)
GRAND ILLUSION (August) (11/99) (3)
2000
THE DISCREET CHARM OF THE BOURGEOISIE (May) (12/02) (31)
RIFIFI (July) (4/01) (9)
DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID (October) (5/01) (7)
BILLY LIAR (November) (7/01) (12)
2001
JULIET OF THE SPIRITS (May) (3/02) (10)
THAT OBSCURE OBJECT OF DESIRE (July) (11/01) (4)
BOB LE FLAMBEUR (July) (4/02) (9)
BAND OF OUTSIDERS (August) (1/03) (17)
2002
UMBERTO D. (February) (7/03) (17)
PEPE LE MOKO (March) (1/03) (10)
QUAI DES ORFEVRES (October) (5/03) (7)
THE PHANTOM OF LIBERTY (November) (5/05) (30)
2003
LE CERCLE ROUGE (January) (10/03) (9)
A WOMAN IS A WOMAN (May) (6/04) (13)
THE MILKY WAY (June) (August 2007) (50)
TOUCHEZ PAS AU GRIZBI (September) (1/05) (16)
AU HASARD BALTHAZAR (October) (4/15) (18)
EYES WITHOUT A FACE (October) (10/04) (12)
2004
THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS (January) (10/04) (9)
2005
MASCULINE FEMININE (February) (9/05) (7)
THE TWO OF US (May) (6/07) (25)
ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS (June) (4/06) (10)
MOUCHETTE (October) (1/07) (15)
2006
THE FALLEN IDOL (February) (11/06) (9)
ARMY OF SHADOWS (April) (5/07) (13)
As you can see there really is no consistency as to how long it takes from a theatrical release to a DVD release.

Classe tous risques is not new wave.

There's a mistake with KAPÃ’ nationality. It's not a French film, it's an Italian - French coproduction, filmed in Yugoslavie, BUT spoken in ITALIAN and nominated for the Oscar for ITALY.
Can you edit it?
gracias.

No problema
I don't think we can label every film between 58-74 or something French new wave because Sautet was outside the whole movement. Some say Melville was a new wave director, but he was making films before the movement launched.
I didn't say that. But thinking about his later work, his policiers were a heavy influence from American films. So it is arguable. He was also using camera techniques (generally considered to be used in nouvelle vague) before it started in France.

Does anyone else think Gus van Sant's Mala Noche qualifies for Category III, considering the attention the film is getting on the Janus Films website?

I know there were rumours quite a while ago about this. This looks like confimation for a likely Criterion release, doesn't it?

Any Janus film is a potential candidate for Criterion. But since this is showing in new print, I'm adding it to the list.

The teaser in this month's email newsletter reads:
This fall, set your clocks to magic hour
I confess, I'm stumped on this one.

Days of Heaven. It was filmed in the 'magic hour' (aka the 'golden hour') before sunset.

Excellent. I watched "Days of Heaven" again a couple months back, with a friend who had never seen it.

Of course "Days of Heaven" is coming to Criterion; I bought the old disc at Silver Platters last week!!
Anyone use Peerflix?

Too bad Warner doesn't license their films, otherwise I'd be CERTAIN this was Linklater's Before Sunset.

I'm really trying to prevent myself from buying Mon Oncle and Playtime because I'm trying to find out if there is even the slightest possibility that Criterion would release a Monsieur Hulot box set.
Is there?

Another film rumored to be coming from the Criterion for a long time, and that has a reputation for its "magic hour" photography is Ingmar Bergman's Summer With Monica. This mentioned only in the interest of further speculation, of course. Days of Heaven (and Malick) from Criterion will/would be fantastic in my book.

I think the "Wacky Locusts" sealed the deal on
Days of Heaven.

It could also mean
The Exorcist II.

Obviously a joke (and a good one at that) but I'll take the literal route...
uh.....WARNER BROTHERS......duh....

Does your source work for Criterion, juste? I only ask because some of the things that he comes up with sound so far-fetched and things like the Lubitsch titles never came to pass. Isn't
Mishima a Warner title? They released the previous DVD and they were the theatrical distributor. I know rights sometimes change, but I'm still a little surprised. I know you don't want to compromise your source's identity, but is there anything you can tell us about him? I'm not questioning your reliability or integrity at all, just wondering how seriously we should take this stuff.

this is not the same source as the lubitsch. in fact, this is from multiple sources. though i just heard back that the dvd release will not be anytime soon. do with it what you will.
im also curious about the warner, except that the original disc came out in the early days of warner when they may have licensed the film instead of bought the film. dunno. all i know is ive been told the rights are now in the hands of criterion. same with insignificance (but we already knew that).
EDIT: The main source was from Sony.

Mishima has been OOP for almost a year. The Warner DVD featured the previously unheard (outside of Japan, where the film was barely released) Japanese voice-over. However, the original Roy Scheider voice-over for the USA release was not included, being replaced by a new, inferior voice-over by an unknown actor. Hopefully (and if its true) the Criterion edition will feature the Roy Scheider v/o. I love this movie, so it will be interesting to see what Criterion would do for it.

Different voice overs? Do you know which one Schrader prefered? It would make sense to use his, but possibly offer the other version. This somehow reminds me of the narrator history of Harry Nilsson's THE POINT.
