Yes, the entry of the Baseball Furies is now badly executed, in the comic book version. This, of course, is how Hill envisioned the film, but it really doesn't work for me - the modern digital graphic panels really jar against the stylistically gritty aesthetic of the film and don't really lend credence to the idea of the film as a modern day retelling of Xenophon's Anabasis.

However, the transfer on the SE is stunning - substantally better than the too-grainy element used for the previous edition, with beautiful colour. The sound is much better, too. But the vast majority of fans prefer the original cut. A similar situation to the 157-minute cut of Apocalypse Now and the Redux cut, though that may be remedied later this year with the "Complete Dossier" set.

Yeah, for all of Hill's intentions to make it like a comic book movie (of which he was much more successful with Streets of Fire), the violence and general look of the movie is way too gritty for a traditional comic book vibe and more like a crime film... of course, Sin City kinda goes for that hyperviolence in spades and it DID come from a comic book but I digress...

My guess, is that Paramount wanted to do an SE of the original cut and that Hill said "yes, as long as I can recut the film with the graphic panels" as I originally intended 25 years ago and Paramount yieled. It would work better with more creative and integrated graphics done in trad animation, like Creepshow, but as it is, the panels add nothing to the film's narrative or aesthetic and if you have seen (okay studied) the film many times like myself, then it is simply jarring. Melding live action with animation is a trecherous endevour and it takes a special vision for it to work effectively, but on The Warriors it looks rushed. Points for trying, but give me the theatrical cut any day. One just wonders if the comic book version is one definitive and has replaced the original version. I hope not. If so, that initial DVD will fetch obscene amounts in the years to come, once it goes OOP.

I have a sentimental spot for my WARRIORS copy taped off TNT w JoeBob chucking out cannibal gags left & right...

"Two cannibals are sitting round a campfire eating a clown.. one says 'This taste funny to you?'"

"Two cannibals are sitting around a campfire eating when one cannibal lift his head and say 'Damn I hate my mother-in-law,'... and the other cannibal says 'So try the potatos..'"

Yes, the drive in will never die.

WARRR-RIERRRS... COME OUT TO PLAYY-YAY... WORRRR..

sorry for the slight out of topic, but is Streets of Fire planned/announced on Blu-Ray ?

It has been released on DVD-HD (for the first time in its correct ration contrary to the DVD SD release)...
