From the sound of it, a theater full of people all ruining their undergarments at the same time.

I would much rather see Duchovny reteam with Zalman King to do another Red Shoe Diaries movie, picking up "Jake's Story" ten years on.

And, no, I'm not kidding.

These are the eight episodes that are relevant to the movie.

that can't be right. Digging back to my X-Files geek days, some of thse episodes were stand-alones and not part of the mythology at all. thinking specifically of Post-Modern Prometheus.

Well Chris Carter introduces each episode on the disc and explains how it ties into the film. For the pilot, I wonder if his explanation will go much beyond, "Hey, these two people are going to be in the movie." But I wonder if he'll explain how Xzibit fits into all of this.

Three of those episodes are comedies, are they prepping the audience for a laughably bad movie?

If they were insistent on bringing back a catchphrase, it seems The Truth Is Out There would have been a better title. This isn't that bad though, as far as fan-appeasing gestures go

It sounds like a really bad R&B song title.

Sounds like an Ozu title: I Want to Believe, But...

The movie's novelization has gone to press, meaning that for all of the studio's fighting to keep the plot secret, it's just been undermined by their product:
THE X-FILES 2008 MOVIE NOVELIZATION MMPB
by Max Allan Collins
Mulder and Scully are back in the thrilling novelization of the summer 2008 blockbuster movie based on the classic X-Files TV show! When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest's questionable "visions" send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women's disappearance. It's a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere...and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!

This sounds like something better for a TV movie than a feature film, but I felt that way about the first movie, too. Maybe it's because of the use of exclamation points in the description. However, being a fan I guess I feel obligated to check it out.

Awesome. Though it took itself too seriously, the series was capable of some seriously twisted stuff for network TV, would love to see them work in an R-rated environment on this. Or get Darrin Morgan to write it, his Scientology ep is still one of the best things ever aired on TV.

It can be done, but I'd imagine that it's not generally advisable. Steven Spielberg and especially Clint Eastwood are known as being incredibly fast and efficient. Million Dollar Baby was almost exactly six months from the first day of principal photography to commercial release date. Not everybody's Clint though.
Also if I remember correctly Spielberg started shooting Munich in July and it was out at the end of December. If they aren't too rusty I think Carter & Co can do it. Some of the TV episodes were pretty complex and were shot in 7-10 days.

It also looks like it was shot in BC so it should have more of that overcast, darker look than the movie and seasons 6 on. The show started to go down hill when they started shooting here in sunny SoCal as far as I'm concerned.
