Incidentally, has anyone noticed how little Paramount has historically (at least since the 1950s) cared about its product after it's been released? Paramount probably lost a ton of money after selling off the rights to Psycho to Hitchcock and then ultimately to Universal in 1968.
Plus Paramount sold its pre-1948 library to MCA in the fifties, which in turn incorporated it into Universal when MCA bought Universal. I think one of the only few important pre-1948 movies that Paramount still owns that it originally produced, is The Miracle of Morgan's Creek from 1944, directed by Preston Sturges. Even today, Paramount dvds often offer little in the form of extras like commentary, when it comes to their reissues of the earliest movies they still own.

It's bemoaning to say the least, hence the reason Eclipse had to release all those Paramount Lubitsch musicals, Criterion put out Trouble in Paradise, and Universal through Design for Living in a collection with other Gary Cooper Paramount titles. Same can be said for their Marlene Dietrich collection. Sigh what I wouldn't give for a Josef Von Sternberg collection with Thunderbolt, The Last Command, Underworld, etc.

Universal did release on dvd the early Marx Brothers films made at Paramount. The print used on most of them was in poor shape and could have looked better. I guess Paramount did not take care of the original negetives to the films......too bad!

Oh, and Cecil B. DeMille's original silent version of The Ten Commandments was released by Paramount on the 1956 Special Edition.
