BTTF PART II uncannily predicted the fate of Detroit (I've spent my whole life in the suburbs of this city): towering glorious casinos (three of them) and the rest of the city a bombed-out wreck!
What keeps the second film on track with the first is its respect for the theory of parallel dimensions. Even though it's a comedy, the science fiction element is played seriously. The third doesn't concern itself as much with the science, but plays around with genre expectations to make up for it.

Would have loved to see some of the Stoltz footage, but that was about as likely as a Crispin Glover interview.
I'd also like to hear what the hell this is all about. Someone track down that kid!

Thank God I wasn't drinking something when I watched this, it would have ended up all over the screen

According to Bob Gale, there actually will be some footage of Eric Stoltz's scenes in the new documentary.

Yeah, my sources told me this morning that a good chunk of Stoltz's footage will be included.

Fantastic. I thought the 2002 doc was a little underwhelming, so hopefully this does a better job.

Sounds like it, especially considering Spielberg has taken part.

This can't come soon enough. Though it does bum me out that it'll almost certainly be saddled with the generic blue disc art and crappy menus that Universal has refused to do away with.

Has the Blu had heavy DNR applied or what?

More like excessive sharpening.

With 5 weeks of shooting done with Stoltz, I am hoping for a PiP comparisson between the two...

I'm at least hoping for some scenes with dialogue. I've been curious for years, and a few seconds just doesn't cut it.

You know what I'd really love to see eventually -- all 3 films edited into one. But I doubt a single Blu-ray is long enough to store a 5-hour movie all on one disc. Plus, there's that '2 different actresses playing Jennifer' thing. :-k

Back to that Obscure Object of Desire?

My brother tried to do that with the VCR back in the day when we were kids, by playing with recording times when they came on TV. Never could get the transitions quite right.

Couldn't they just CGI Shue's face on to the original actress? Jennifer's not in the first film very much.

Off topic, but I hate non-centered subtitles.

I'm so used to Universal's roving subs that I hardly notice anymore, especially when compared to Sony's black-boxed horrors of late

But I really wish Universal would ditch those horrendous menus.

Anyone know if there's any chance of the films being released separately in 6 or 12 months' time? I'd rather not spend extra money on two sequels that I don't care for at all.

It's only £28 on Amazon right now and surely in 3-6 months it will be £18 or less. Unless they announce a standalone release in that time period with a significantly cheaper RRP, you better get the heavily discounted boxset.
