Thanks for these updates. I've not purchased any of them yet but I'm about to get those argentos this week. I'm interested in getting more.

Hopefully this company will do well. It does seem weird to be releasing this many obscure titles that fast (criterion's releases this many as someone else pointed out but criterion's titles are far more mainstream than many of these).

I think the problem is a that the number boutique labels are increasing and you need to be fast to secure the rights and also to beat competition from other territories releasing stealing your market. I like MYA a lot even though the Joe D. movies are some of the worst i've ever seen, as they continue to bring me suprises I would never have come accross if it wasn't for them. As long as they focus on the films and not extrax and packing, they should be able to keep up the speed releasing 3-4 DVD's a month.

So, Hammock, with the big sales (hopefully) right around the corner, is there a handful of MYA's releases that you could recommend above the rest for their qualities as films, as well as the quality of presentation (ie "original" Italian sound/Eng. subs, extras, etc)? And/or let us know more specifically, which films did not meet your expectations.

I'll try and make a quick one for you:

001: The Blind Woman Of Sorrento (Italian Language - English Subtitles)
Great film, worth the money!

002: Provocation (Italian / English Language - No Subtitles)
Avoid. Soft porn with a little tit here and there. Story is BAD.

003: The Virgo, The Taurus And The Capricorn (Italian / English Language - No Subtitles)
Funnier than I expected and with Fenech - not much to consider here - buy.

004: The Maniacs (Italian Language - English Subtitles)
Lovely film, or actually many small films. All have a very clear punchline and some of them are funny as hell. Buy.

005: The Inveterate Bachelor (Italian Language - English Subtitles)
One of the best so far. Wonderful transfer and De Sica is always a pleasure. Buy.

006: Door Into Darkness (Italian Language - English Subtitles)
The hype was big on this release but to me it was on the level with a good Sherlock Holmes story. The 4 doors is a great idea but it has a very slow pace. Argento fans HAS to see this others can find much better films by him and keep this on hold.

007: Bread, Love And Dreams (Italian / English Language - No Subtitles)
Really fantastic movie. I've written a reveiw in Danish and do not have the time to translate it, but this movie is one of the reasons why I really like MYA. Did I mention how lovely Gina Lollobrigida looks in this...



008: Scorpion With Two Tails (Italian / English Language - No Subtitles)
This one was a bit of a suprise. Not much blood and the storyline is weak. The cover gave me too high hopes.

009: A Policewoman In New York (Italian / English Language - No Subtitles)
Really bizarre and VERY italian comedy. Think female Bud Spencer with tits. I was entertaint but I doubt many others would be.

010: Four Flies On Grey Velvet (Italian / English Language - No Subtitles)
Excellent film. Very entertaining and still scary. Buy.

011: Fatty Girl Goes To New York (Italian Language / English Subtitles)
Think Italian Cindy Lauper goes to New York. Really bizarre comedy shot in the 80's (and it shows A LOT). The acting is really bad but during the film I started loving it. For the few but if you have nothing else to do, give it a shot.

012: Top Girl (Italian / English Language - No Subtitles)
Bad, bad, bad. I like tits and all that, but this is just BAD. Avoid.

013: Craving Desire (Italian / English Language - No Subtitles)
More tits. Maybe I just don't understand these flicks, but I would avoid this one too.

014: Passion (Italian Language / English Subtitles)
Tits anyone? Again, soft erotica. These days with anal fisting, tripple stacking, cumfarts, atm etc. etc. makes these flicks look like something for the Disney Channel. Avoid.

015: The Revenge Of The Crusader (Italian Language / English Subtitles)
Another nice suprise. Really good story and the acting is not bad either. Buy.

And, I did visit the dungeon. Stupendous project you have undertaken. Impressive. The only thing I miss are these little comments of yours, but I understand that you are letting the releases speak for themselves on the site.

Oh I'm definitely buying the argentos soon, I don't pay enough attention and I didn't realize until this month that they had been released. The argento doc on Door Into Darkness is what put me over on buying the set.

I forgot about the Fulci, I've seen like 33 films from him but still haven't got around to seeing any of his early comedies, I guess its time to try one.

I desperately miss one title from the list: "Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key" (Il tuo vizio e una stanza...) directed by Sergio Martino. "...Mrs. Wardh" is there but "Your Vice..." is not available anywhere on dvd only if you know Italian. "...Mrs. Wardh" is available in Germany under the title "Der Killer von Wien" . Does anybody know if there will be a re-release of "Your Vice..."?

SATAN'S WIFE is a nonsensical new title for Pier Carpi's RING OF DARKNESS. Sporting an eclectic cast including Marisa Mell, John Phillip Law, Ian Bannen, Irene Papas, Frank Finlay, Anne Heywood, and Valentina Cortese, the film itself is a mixed bag (there were rumors of producer interference - the film is based on director Pier Carpi's own novel).

LUCIFERA - DEMON LOVER is Paolo Lombardo's L'AMANTE DEL DEMONIO and has been mastered from a cropped Italian VHS videotape with instances of tape damage. Some fullsize caps at this Latarnia thread

EVIL FACE is Sergio Garrone's THE HAND THAT FEEDS DEATH and is also mastered from a poor VHS tape with some damage and the subtitles seem to have been auto-translated and not at all proofed so you get lines that read: "That is why I need evidences. More powerful is their name, more evidences I need".

HORRIBLE/ABSURD is non-anamorphic but looks okay apart from some hideous multi-generation video inserts. The rights situation on this one is sketchy since MGM reportedly owns the rights to this film.

DINNER WITH A VAMPIRE looks good although the trailer on the disc looks like it was converted to MPEG2 from early YouTube quality flash video. CRAVING DESIRE also looks good (it is open matte with an instance or two of dipping boom microphones - like most Dania theatrical features from the eighties it has the same flat, evenly lit look of their TV productions).
