Fantoma has the rights to those two in the U.S., and they're both still in print.

Dragoon En Regalia wrote:I don't think the Big City cover's aiming for utter orthodoxy with the bindi ref. Compared to Charulata's, this release's cover is much too abstract to be interpreted as representative of real-life, only the abstraction of urban infrastructure and how one gets lost in the system.
I was reading it more as a visual pun. At the very least I think that it's clear the red dots, whatever they represent, link the Charulata and Big City covers together. I just prefer to read it as a bindi on Big City's cover because it's the only thing on the cover aside from Ray's name that hints at the films Indian character. Though even with the pun, I'm sure most people who see the cover will assume it's some generic movie about New York in the 30's.

Ha, it does!

If anybody's looking for a new username, you could do worse than "8-bit bindi."

It sounds like a euphemism for something. Not sure what though.

To Be or Not To Be is one of the best covers they`ve done in a long while.
Would look great on a digipack

Agreed. Death to the digis! (Unpopular sentiment around these parts, I know.) But long live keep cases and durability!

Digipaks for some, miniature American flags for others.

All we need is war over "are DVDs worth buying or should you hold out for blu-ray" and we've got the trifecta

Hey now! I don't enjoy the lack of uniformity between dvd and blu-ray cases. We should start an e-petition.

It's a Neil Kellerhouse package!

It is indeed a stunner, and I'm so glad to see them working with Kellerhouse again. He's probably my favorite designer overall.

Also, I suppose it should come as no surprise that the charming illustration for To Be or Not To Be comes courtesy of Caitlin Kuhwald.

My copy of Badlands from the Amazon sale arrived today without shrinkwrap, and with the "Director-Approved Blu-ray" sticker affixed directly to the keepcase.

After I regained consciousness, I found myself able to cleanly remove the sticker without much difficulty. The case, disc, and booklet appear pristine, so I'm not inclined to exchange it. Has anyone come across this phenomenon before? I'm assuming it was an uncaught error at the packaging factory. Thankfully, none of the other Criterions that arrived today suffered the same fate.

Unless it's damaged or you keep your discs sealed, what's the big deal?

I don't know about anyone else, but I've been trying for a few years now to make a dress out of Criterion shrinkwrap (I just throw the contents away) so I would be very frustrated if one came in the mail without it!
