I would happily go with this guess if there were only three figures rather than four in the drawing.
The fourth just has a knife no x on his mouth. Maybe it's another clue like fisher king jellyfish eye?

If that is what was intended, I wonder if the piggy-backing clue here is for another Ozu? The most logical could be an upgrade for
Good Morning. Has anyone heard of that getting an upgrade?

If it's Good Morning, why does he have a knife in his hands? To cut the cheese?

Well, only 3 of the guys have knives, so the 4th guy obviously is just referring to the An Autumn Afternoon upgrade, referencing the subtext of the Chishu Ryu character's previous career as a street gang leader who refused to get his own hands dirty. We've never heard about this outside Japan because the cultural cues are very subtle. Donald Richie tried to explain this, but it was mistranslated as "Taste of a Transcendent Gentleman's Afternoon Mackerel in Early Winter."

The fourth silent criminal in the drawing is the surviving excerpt from A Straightforward Boy, which, ironically, did not survive the knife fight.

Shrew, you just totally made my day. That was hilarious.
Swo, we'll go with that theory then.

Looking at the Drawing after not seeing it for a while made me think that all the drawings' landscapes are clues and this one has the hills, where the Moonrise Kingdom house sits BEYOND THE HILLS. We know this is coming at some point because of the Cristian Mungiu phantom page. So, maybe sooner than later.

After watching the 1961 version of "Fanny" I started thinking the ship in the New Year's Drawing might be a reference to the ship in this film. Don't get me wrong I do think the ship is a hint at "The New World", but there are also soldiers walking on the land and from what I remember from "The New World" is that the soldiers do travel on land in a formation like that. Also, Westchester Films has the rights to "Fanny" and we also know that
Criterion will get the rights to film just because it was nominated for Best Picture.

I guess the window frame was for A Room with a View.

Could there have been anything released that could have been for the Rorschach image between the Rose and Dressed to Kill?

I think we came to the conclusion that it is for Lady Snowblood (given that they were recently added to Criterion's Amazon offerings).

Could the soldiers with the previously viewed as French hats actually represent Breaker Morant?

Other than The Brood, we didn't clear up anything else from the drawing right?

This might be of some help
Or adding/fixing that list:
One Two Three is most likely After Hours (since a Scorpion rep said Criterion didn't have One Two Three)
Clouds of Sils Maria
I put Jellyfish Eyes under the Janus tour section, in case you were wondering, and the suns + moon were most likely for Two Days One Night / Moonrise Kingdom, even though Before Trilogy is certainly happening.
Not 100% sure from the clue, but the best guesses we've had:
Cure
Koker Trilogy
This is Spinal Tap
Tom Jones / Napoleon / Barry Lyndon / Les Miserables
Wenders - Road Movie Trilogy - Alice in the Cities, Wrong Move, Kings of the Road
-----------
The 2015 newsletter perhaps was too cryptic. I think most people gave up hope on trying to decipher what the soliders meant, etc.

I'm going to make a case the sun and moon in the drawing was also a hint for The Apu Trilogy. It references Kurosawa's quote (which is everywhere with the promotion of the trilogy and included in the Criterion Apu restoration piece shown in art houses) nicely.

This was the most incoherent drawing Criterion's given as a clue. I know it's confirmed as Lady Snowblood but I still can't make heads or tails of the actual drawing except the puddle.

Now that we know the full 2015 slate, did the clock under the bridge tie in with anything announced this year? The couple in the car? The gang with knives and x's over their mouths? The ship? Llewyn Davis? The splotch that we are now assuming is blood on snow?
I think the soldiers ended up being Breaker Morant and that Polan was trying to draw the hats seen in the stills Chris posted on his review but he totally missed the mark to the point that it made the clue incomprehensible .
This tease was a flat out disaster.

Knives with x's are silent gangsters.

Going back at the New Year drawing, is it farfetched to say that the clock with its hands pointing between 2 and 4 might be a hint for 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days? And the caravel in the river is for The Emigrants/The New Land?
Any other hints left?
