The FF has held over De Sica's IL BOOM. Has anyone seen it?

Saw it last week, the film's bonkers in the best possible way, really really funny.

Thanks Black Hat. Slightly surprised it's held over. But now I have a chance to catch it.

Me too as it seemed to be more of a less publicized release, but it's a great black comedy. Did not realized De Sica swam in those waters.

I saw this today. I figured what better day to see a film named IL Boom than on the 4th of July. It was quite clever, funny and yes, bonkers. I grew up with that Italian humor. It brought back memories. The music was great as well.

New Metrograph calendar is popping up with some goodies like Alain Tanner, Antonioni in 35mm and this Kung Fu Retrospective which includes A Touch of Zen in 35mm in case anyone wants to do recon on color accuracy.

Does anyone need a ticket to the sold-out screening of Suspiria at the Metrograph on Sunday, July 30? I have one ticket that I'll sell for face value ($15).

BAM is holding a retrospective next month and Paul Thomas Anderson will be there to introduce three films (Demme's three best narrative films, IMHO), and to do a Q&A for Married to the Mob with Paul Lazar.

Man oh man. I hope this isn't something that's going to sell out impossibly quickly, because I'm sold.

Well, I just got a ticket for Married to the Mob and I'm debating whether to go to that or the free Nick Lowe show in the UWS. If I change my mind, will keep y'all posted.

Also, the down side is Citizen's Band is in 16mm, not 35mm, and Melvin and Howard, Stop Making Sense and some others are DCP's. Heart of Gold and Something Wild are in 35mm.

Finally (at last) watched Married to the Mob (Blu-Ray). Been intending to get around to this ever since 1988...

OK, I'm going. Gonna miss Melvin and Howard as I don't want to pay for two nights at a hotel, but LQ and I will be at the first two.

For a second there, I was so excited that CITIZEN'S BAND was going to be from a new restoration, indiciating (I hoped) a digital release of some kind. It is not. It is a 16 mm print.

It's puzzling because Lincoln Center screened a 35mm print about five years ago, and yet a few months ago, the Quad screened a 16mm print and now so will BAM. Did that 35mm print get wore down or something? Was it the only one they had in circulation?

Not sure whether I imagined this being on Sunday originally or not, but this appears to be on Saturday too. So we'll probably be at Melvin and Howard too.

Rare and probably amazing but, ugh, Moving Image kills me with its weekend-only programming. Metrograph is bad about this, too.

Metrograph announces cool screening. Metrograph announces weekday showtimes of 4pm and 9:30pm. Rinse, lather, repeat!

Quad Cinema is doing a Mario Bava retrospective with the new Kill Baby Kill 2k restoration and Planet of the Vampires 4k restoration, most of the other films are all in 35 or 16mm too.

Earlier today I made my first trip to the new Quad. I went to see On Dangerous Ground. It was shown in 35mm in the U theater. Not sure if all the theaters in there are the same, but this one had a low screen and peoples heads were appearing on the screen when they would walk in and out of the room. Very distracting. If it was a foreign film it would be really annoying as the subs would be blocked as it did in the few preview trailers they showed.

Also the A/C was blowing full blast. I know it was 90 degrees in NY. But it was beyond cold in the theater. People were moving their seats to get away from vents that were blowing in the frigid air. The cold temps played very well with second half of the film. It actually felt good to get outside.

Not crazy about the really short arm rests that curve downward.

But still enjoyed the experience thanks to a terrific film.

anyone catch the Alain Tanner films at Metrograph? If so, how were the prints? Hopefully they weren't beat up copies from New Yorker. They'll probably head over to the West Coast in a few months. I was in town for just a few days, but I caught MOMA's new print of The Loveless, which looked excellent.
