If we're talking in the realm of pure speculation, it would be terrific - New Yorker could be the new HVE in terms of releasing titles that aren't going to get the Criterion treatment or don't fit into an Eclipse series.

any news on moses und aron? supposed to be out this month...

It's now listed as discontinued by DVD Empire. I've written to them three times without any response. It's possible that they postponed the release because another company was releasing an unrelated DVD of a performance of Schoenberg's opera on the same day and they were concerned about confusion from retailers (Amazon was getting this confused, listing Jean-Marie Straub as the director of the opera for a while). New Yorker's complete lack of customer service is consistently baffling, but hopefully this will come out in the fall.

I don't think that the Rivette ever had an officially announced release date like those two titles did, excepting Rosenbaum's mentioning that it was in the works. Maybe I missed it.

In 2005 it was announced on their site, but then taken off.

Last I heard, New Yorker was still working on "Celine and Julie". It was my impression that this was something they really really want to get right -- in terms of transfer and extras.

Michael, I hope you're right! It's getting to the point where I'm about to buy the BFI edition. I need this film in R1! Besides, after Celine et Julie I can start obsessing over Mother and the Whore again.

You'd think that New Yorker would treat all of their releases (ahem, Bresson and Godard in particular) with such care. What's happening with them? I want my Rivette. I'm on the boat now to get Janus to buy New Yorker.

They told me the same thing in one of the reply emails they sent me. I have emailed them five or six times over the last two years. I always received a response when I emailed them about Celine and Julie, but they have never answered my Bressonian inquires.

I Am Cuba certainly will be. And it should have the "corrected audio" (i.e., no Russian narrator).

The Watkins stuff will, of course, be from Project X.
