This isn't my own film, but the product of a good friend of mine who isn't a filmmaker but has made a very decent feature length film about biking across Canada. You can watch the entire film online here. The entire 1 hour project is available to view online, so by all means - give it a look if you have time, are interested in bike touring, crafty homemade documentaries or just the nation of Canada and it's extremely varied landscapes, of which this film offers several glimpses of.

Mike had no previous experience with filmmaking, but he is a crafty guy - the bike cam thing he made is pretty interesting (which you can read more about the construction of that here.

Mike's official synopsis:

Mike wrote: "The Cross Canada Project" attempts to document the experiences of long-distance bicycle touring. Using a specially designed weatherproof camera mounted to his bicycle, Mike Beauchamp is able to film himself without interruption in all conditions as he attempts to ride his bicycle over 7000 KM across Canada from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way he practices "stealth camping", visits distant relatives, encounters strangers and other cyclists and explores abandoned houses. Set to an original soundtrack and using video diaries, recorded phone conversations and radio interviews, Mike illustrates the struggles of a touring cyclist and explores the vastness of the Canadian landscape... all for "something to do".

Our Sundance sleeper hit "Asshole" will screen at the 2009 Gen Art Film Festival in New York on April 5th. It is attached to the highly anticipated comedy feature "Punching the Clown." Tickets are $30, but that includes both films and an open bar after party at chic-as-fuck ANTIK/MARIONS. I hope those of you who live in New York can make it.

Not exactly a film, per se, but I thought some NYC area members might enjoy this. It's a new play I wrote called Go-Go Killers! and it plays at the Sage Theater in Times Square on Friday and Saturday nights from May 8th-May 30th, 2009. Its influences include the works of Russ Meyer and Jack Hill, with a sprinkling of Mario Bava and Roger Vadim for added Eurotrash flavor.

They are mainly dark, otherworldly character studies or over-the-top/surreal little sequences that are improvised with the actors. The technical quality varies as I'm still experimenting, would appreciate feedback!

A film I worked on last summer doing various duties now has a trailer online: Primordial Ties by Otto Buj (previously directed The Eternal Present, which is kicking around online these days). Shot on Super16mm with a super small crew and cast on locations throughout Windsor, Ontario.

Well, my videos certainly aren't as cool as Chaddoli's, but I did just throw a few of them up on Vimeo. They're all a bit rough around the edges, as I used them as a sort of experimental playground to try out different techniques.

Election Day Blues: The pixillation video I posted a while back, but with an updated audio track.

If You Aren't Psychic: Three mini-narratives—each made using a different animation technique (stop-motion, cell and cut-out)—cut together.

Pheromone Cologne: One of two experiments I made using Google image search (the other isn't up yet), this is a digital direct-film piece that may cause seizures.

Sunburnt and Brusied: A dance-for-camera video I did with modern dancer/choreographer Rosa Vissers. Vimeo's compression hasn't been kind to those (intentionally) blown-out windows.

I am surprised I haven't added a few screen grabs from my short film A Dream of Life on this thread. The super 16mm film was shot with the Aaton XTR in November 2002 and the DP is Tony Merzetti. I have struggled the past seven years to get another short production off the ground but came against obstacles with lack of crew, cast and most of all funding! This year I will shoot my short film piecemeal from July to October with the same actress in these shots. I will be the Director & DP and I will use the Sony EX-1 with the REDROCKMICRO M2 Cinema lens adapter kit utilizing Nikon lenses.

I have to admit, I am not a big fancy filmmaker, or even a professional by any means. I am still a student; one who has not even graduated yet! I have, however, made two short films recently that might be pretty good.

The Drunkards : I had been watching a lot of Charlie Chaplin at the time I wrote the synopsis- had I had more foresight, I would've shot it in academy ratio. Most of this film aside from the basic plot was thought up the day of the shooting, and I just hope it doesn't show. It certainly was a lot of fun.

Creeper - pt. 1 : this one is a whole lot meatier, but also not as good - the first half of the film is really all over the place. Part two, for which a link should be on that page, is much better (in my opinion). This whole film is about creepers on the internet letting their creepiness bleed into real life so if you want to see some weirdo internet people this is the film for you.

Great job on The Drunkards, Jack!. That was a fun little romp, and I thought the telephone call from the butt gag was pretty inspired. I tried something similar to this once, and I found it difficult to get the actors to completely commit the way you have---terrific job all around. Too bad about that damn car in the distant background (~4 min mark). Now all you need is a time machine, and you got yourself a bright future in nineteen tens filmmaking...

so I've just about finished my short film. It's a Romance of sorts... (16mm color, sound, no dialogue)
Any comments or criticisms would be hugely helpful to me.
For the time being its untitled and there is still some sound that needs to be added, but this rough cut is pretty close to the final product. Anyways, it'd be great to get some feedback if possible.

The film is 15 minutes long, but because of youtube's time restriction I've posted it as 2 parts.

The film, btw, is about a guy who comes home one day to discover that he's been recast and somebody else will be playing the part of him in his life. It is, to the best of my knowledge, the first feature film in New Zealand shot on the Red (for those who care about that kind of thing).

This isn't my work, but one of my friends made a short claymation film for a school project and I just have to share it. It's called "Don't Feed The Birds".

Anyone in the Chicago area looking for something to do on Thursday (07/15) is welcome to come to the Portage Theater on Milwaukee Ave. and check out a program of short films that includes one I co-directed called Rehearsal for the Wreck. Doors open at 6:00pm, program starts at 7:00, and it's free. This is the first time anyone other than me and my co-director will see it and the first time anything I've made will be shown in a theater this size, so I'm more than a little freaked out about it.
