Excellent film, I'd love to see it in the collection, though I would not call it a film noir, at all.

What's not film noir about it? It's directed by the great Edward Dmytryk, shot on location in London because of the HUAC. Moral dilemma,(though it does lack a femme fatale). Lot's of great noirish camera angles and dark photography. I do believe it's also on several critics best noir list.

It's a noir like Bicycle Thieves is a noir

I do think that noir is a troublesome appellation for CIC/Give Us This Day. Dmytryk does indeed import strikingly noirish visuals into the visual sensibility of this fabulous film (if you like the film I strongly recommend the book too), but the narrative itself is essentially your classic depression era melodrama of struggle and strife. There's no crime drama, femmes fatale, grinding wheels of grimmest nameless fate seeking to trip up the hero at every turn, etc, none of the narrative trappings that one would consider the hallmarks of noir.
Great GREAT film though, fully deserves a spot in the CC... in lieu of that, the All-Day disc from Kalat was wonderful, and filled to the brim with excellent and unexpected extras.

More hipster fodder on Blu Ray, an Eclipse box set devoted to all the Mizoguchi / Ichikawa / Naruse films MoC already released, and Make Way For Tomorrow.
One of those is my wishful thinking, the other is my wallet's wishful thinking.

Aside from Bottle Rocket, what other Blu-ray "hipster fodder" has there been thus far?

I wasn't talking about hipsters, I was cracking a joke about what they'll release in November. Cripes.

I plan on asking some Sternbergs to Santa Claus so it's November or December. And I've been a good boy, you guys can count on me
I wouldn't mind Jour de FĂȘte instead though.

I actually enjoy this.
We know Che and Cronos are definites, and they'll probably bring out the Blu Down By Law (even though I hope the Kwaidan rerelease is November). Also if they don't double team Che with Gray's Anatomy heads will roll. Sadly I don't expect them to do more then that, but if they do the Von Stroheim's would be a pleasure.
Would that make this the newest month, by average, in Criterion's history?

Yes, based on a bunch of stuff you just made up, this should be their newest month yet.

I thought we'd see the Walkabout re-release on Blu before we see any of the other titles in the Amazon contest - it's the last title missing from their original announcement (minus Contempt which I believe is tied up with rights issues).

Re:
Grey's Anatomy. Criterion might be waiting for Soderbergh to finish his forthcoming Spalding Gray doc and team it up with that. Word is all that's left to be is the editing on that one.

They also have the Rossellini war trilogy that was hinted at in the newsletter for this fall. I'd say that, Che, and Cronos seem like the obvious choices.
