McCabe is awful. My vote for worst of the year.

I really like the cover for A Taste of Honey. It has an authentic retro feel and makes me think of artwork found on book covers of the 60s or even 50s. Reminds me too of the LP and book cover art of Alex Steinweiss: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=alex ... 0&bih=1031

The Immortal Story is good, the rest is pretty meh.

Question - am I the only one who actually loves the McCabe cover? I think it strikes a delicate balance; the text evokes that western feel, and the way it warps and interacts with the background image reflects the visual tone of the film (disgusting yet beautiful). I think you guys are being a little harsh :)

The rest of the covers are pretty good. The white border on the Immortal Story cover is completely unnecessary, and the text effect on the Bergman cover is a little awkward, but overall a solid effort.

There's a real possibility.

I'm sure people who designed and approved it love it as well...

I like the MCCABE cover too, and I'd go so far as to say that it's one of my favorites in a long time. And I think that when people get it in hand, and the instinctive distaste of something new and different fades, it'll look pretty good to a lot of other people, too.

I'll put it this way - if the original poster art had looked like that cover, and Criterion hadn't used it, the movie's fans would be inconsolable.

I'll venture to say that in 50 years' time, it's the only one of this month's covers we'll still be talking about.

I also really like the Immortal Story cover and think it captures the film well. In addition, I actually am not too keen on the Chimes cover, as I think Welles looks almost drunk, and I think Hal should be lording over him more.

That reminds me that it has been 10 years this year since the pink Viridiana cover.

...which was a great cover in comparison to the Zazie eyesore of 5 years past.

For those who don't remember that cover as its anniversary approaches, I'm posting it below.

It's official: I'm totally cool with the leaflets now. La chienne and Fantastic Planet have convinced me.

I hate declaring this kind of stuff so early, but SURELY this will win the packaging of the year award by an overwhelming margin?

That's pretty awesome. Kind of expected a digipak, but didn't expect the treasure trove of goodies.

Criterion's Dr. Strangelove is definitely a "Shut up and take my money!" situation ... and I even have the limited edition steelbook from Best Buy.
