Score! House on BD! And, well, everything else as well! So much for horror month but this more than makes up for that.

My immediate reaction is that I'm happier for Paths of Glory than I would have been for Night of the Hunter. Getting either one is a landmark month as far as I'm concerned. Adding Darjeeling and the Seven Samurai Blu and I couldn't be happier.

"Emotion" is Obayashi's best short, I'm so excited they're including it!!

What an awesome month, every title is a must-buy for me. It'd be nice if there was something more off-the-beaten-path, say something on the Eclipse line, but I can't complain about such a stellar line-up of titles.

Is this the first month that all the releases are available on DVD and Blu-ray?

Also, unless it's a mistake, it looks like the $39.95 Blu-ray and $29.95 DVD price points have stuck. Even though I now always buy Blu-ray when available, I'm totally okay with that because the price has not gone up, it's only gone down for DVD buyers.

Night of the Hunter is still coming eventually, right? So this is a total windfall.

Goddamn, I think Paths is my favorite Kubrick, that's a hell of a get for Criterion.

"House" and "Paths of Glory" are day one BD buys for me (is this Kubrick's first appearance in the collection not counting Laserdiscs?). Don't know enough about "The Magician" to make a call, I don't get Wes Anderson outside of "Rushmore" (so no "Darjeeling Limited" for me) and I'm perfectly content with my "Seven Samurai" three-disc DVD. Good month even though there's no Eclipse Box Set announcement. :(

Spartacus was Kubrick's first DVD. Paths of Glory being an MGM title is a good sign that The Killing won't be far behind, yes?

Don't forget their Spartacus dvd.

Great month, and very excited for the new pricing since I cannot afford to go blu anytime soon.

The list of potential pre-orders just keeps getting longer. This has been an amazing year, and there are still two months' worth of announcements to go. I was blown away the Rossellini and Paris, Texas at the start of the year, and just about every month has set me to figuring out how to squeeze new titles into my budget while catching up on the older stuff.

I was going to say the same thing that The Killing can't be far behind now that Paths announced. I'm thinking now that with what is going on over at MGM, just about anything Criterion wants from them I bet they snatch up.

Agreed, and I was chided for saying so earlier in the year. I'll be purchasing Seven Samurai and Hausu on release day, which is not something I usually do.

Nice month for surprises... didn't think Paths of Glory would be coming this soon.

Heard good things about Paths of Glory and I'm very pleased not only about the Blu announcement but the fact that it bodes well for a Blu of The Killing (please!). Somewhat undecided yet on whether to blindbuy Hausu. And speaking of horror, the wait for Cronos continues..

One release I'd still like to see for 2010 is Still Walking [-o<

edit: the Godard Blu-Rays just keep on coming. Almost makes me regret that I ordered the DVD of Band of Outsiders on Marketplace even if it was a very reasonable 12.99 before shipping.

A David Mamet commentary on The Killing would be excellent.

Bravo! The finest early Kubrick and the best yet-to-be-released on Criterion Bergman. Outstanding!

Am I the only one who's dissapointed that Antichrist won't be coming out in October?

Nope - I was hoping to shock my friends on All Hallow's Eve in 1080p with that one. Oh well!

But besides the lack of Antichrist, this is looking like a stellar month; what's more, having already seen the MoC Hausu I know I can screen the new Criterion Blu on Holloween and still have a great party \:D/

Seven Samurai and Paths of Glory are no brainers. I'll pass on The Darjeeling Limited (which I thought was OK, but not good enough to own). I need to see House and The Magician.

Excited about the (long term) confirmation of Red River, too.

No, I thought it was a sure thing. Maybe they're saving it for November, which is the best selling month, since it's a money in the bank release

Releasing Hausu on blu, made it worth the wait! Bit disappointed that Videodrome hasn't been announced yet, while the amazon pre-order link has been there for months...
19th Of October is not that far from the November sale, so i guess i'll wait a month before i get Seven Samurai.

Does this month only qualify because there was no Eclipse set? Last month, both mainline releases were on DVD and Blu-ray.

Actually this is the first month BD releases outnumber DVD releases (5 versus 4 because of "Seven Samurai's" high-def debut).

We've had that before too. I think it was back when Stagecoach was announced, but this same conversation did happen some months back.
