I mean I could be wrong and they might surprise us with a UHD for Out of Sight or the 3hr cut of The Black Dahlia (actually I would take this on blu let alone UHD) but I suspect it will be a recent horror or sci fi title that will be the UHD as that seems to be he genres that according to KLI sell best for them.

edit: the current most popular guess is for Red Dragon

KL Insider has stated that the UHD (hoped to be the first of a handful) is from the 2000s, was released on BD by Universal, and has also indicated it is not Red Dragon (2002).

My hope? Children of Men (2006).

Literally laughed out loud at them needing to deny that though-- that's exactly the kind of release I'd expect from them!

Well that rules out Out of Sight :(

Although, if it is Children of Men, would gladly take that as a substitute.

Edit: most popular new guesses are for Pitch Black or The Wolfman. Which do seem more like the sort of titles that might sell well for them.

I have a hard time believing anyone would be excited about The Wolfman.

As for Pitch Black, I think Ballyhoo is working on special features for it for someone and I'm not sure that they've worked with Kino.

Great use of Homer's question asking strategy from the Kwik-E-Mart on top of the mountain

I know, I know, I should've been more detailed with the question. I was meaning along the basis of more well known director/s (e.g. The Coen Brothers), but I didn't word it that way. Whoops.

That said, I did inquire about Michael J Fox, and I did receive. The only three (that I know of) Universal films of his that have yet to be given a domestic blu-ray release are The Hard Way, For Love or Money, and The Secret of My Success. That should potentially narrow it down.

Kino Insider said no Clive Owen movies, so you can cross Children of Men off your UHD list.

This is very exciting––between the 4K master and the McBride commentary. I was rather cool on McBride's book, which while thoroughly researched and rather expansive, could have used an editor to streamline it (which is not something I often say!). McBride, along with William Paul, is one of the few critics who has taken a sympathetic view of Angel, so it's nice to see him get it.

As for the cover art, I'm very pleased: that's my favorite poster of the film. I suspect that the reverse cover art will be that poster's twin; it seems that two posters were designed, one for Herbert Marshall, one for Melvyn Douglas––something I only learned myself a week or so ago!

Here's hoping Universal gets around to it on their own, I guess.

CHILDREN OF MEN was pretty blatantly clued for Criterion in one of their drawings, wasn't it? Two guys with infants, as I seem to recall. Has there been word that Criterion has dropped it?

That clue was also “solved” for three other movies, but could have been for just any one of them in isolation

Also surely they would have lined up it with Roma if it was in the pipeline? I’d also say that knowing Kino Insider that they like to leak what titles Criterion has licensed when given the opportunity and the fact they didn’t talk around the fact that it is possible indicates it isn’t happening

In their social post for LADYBUG LADGBUG Kino does credit Eleanor Perry with Diary of a Mad Housewife after her name. Wouldn’t be surprised if they had that in their pipeline already (Kino loves keeping those credits to their own titles). I really really hope of any Perry films thag Criterion may have that PLAY IT AS IT LAYS is among them. Imo its his best film and has the best performances Tuesday Weld or Anthony Perkins ever gave. Plus you know Crterion would want some Didion.
Kino Lorber Insider said Play Is As It Lays still has legal trouble and Universal wouldn't license it, so I don''t think it's coming from anyone

What sort of legal trouble? Between the studio and Joan Didion?

Secret Ceremony has been touted as a “new master.” So this will be a fresh scan, and different to the Indicator?

Indicator didn’t say too much about WHEN their solid transfer came from...

Definitely willing to “double dip” to see Losey’s film with a fresh lick of paint.

I'm wondering too. Indicator's HD remaster was quite good looking and didn't feel dated. At times, it almost feels like a 2K restoration, though darker shots are more typical of older HD masters.
The movie hasn't been released in the US on BD before, so maybe it's "new" only to the US.

Agreed. Secret Ceremony appears as though it was shot in only natural light. Exteriors are fresh and strong - quite impressive - and only when you get to the darker interiors do you see any limitations of the source used (in that way it feels similar to Indicator’s Oleanna).

If Kino can show a whole new level of detail, colour and depth I’m definitely buying. But right now I am sceptical or at least cautious.

Saw this projected in 35 last night and just want to confirm that this transfer looks dead-on to me based on these caps. Great little film.

In the “Even Bad Publicity is Good Publicity” Department:

The New Yorker just published a “hate-watching” piece called The Return of “The Oscar,” an Unseeable, Unwatchable Flop on Kino Lorber’s recent release of The Oscar (1966), without even giving the company a plug by name besides just “an art-house label”. The article definitely would have helped move some units.

The movie is as bad (or worse) as everyone says, no need for anyone to subject themselves to it
