They should. Whoever has the rights has repackaged that thing ad nauseam and yet it's not only the same transfer, but the same horrendous use of DNR.

This is High Hopes! Finally, it's one of my favorites and I'd argue it was Leigh's best work prior to Naked and his later masterpieces. It's been unavailable in the States for a very long time, and the only alternative was a crappy Blu-Ray in the UK that was clearly taken from not only a very old SD transfer (and upscaled to HD), but one of terrible quality, possibly a VHS master.

This is a link to an instagram post, but it's worth noting that the same post on twitter has the Andy Warhol Museum tagged.
I was looking for this post, only to discover it has been removed. Strange, as I don't remember them deleting anything similar, with the exception of David Lynch showing off the Eraserhead packaging -- which I assumed was something to do with Lynch (and Morrissey not being known for similar particularities).

I'm sure Criterion will eventually release the films regardless, but hope they haven't hit a roadblock by understandably wanting to foreground Warhol's involvement for marketing purposes -- as Morrissey quite famously resents the lack of credit for his filmic style and casting discoveries.

Yes, those technicians do look eerily familiar:

You know that's actually pretty good advertising. First, watching clips from great Godard films wrenched out of context and organized so that they slide neatly into narrow and reductive categories makes me angry. In my anger, I start idly forming arguments in my head about the vast array of ideas and projects these clips actually evoke. Thoughts about these films piling on top of each other, I'm overcome with a very pleasant nostalgia that makes me want to return to these films all over again. If I didn't already own all the Criterion Godards, they probably would've just made a sale.

Maybe :: kogonada is actually some kind of innovative marketing technique.

And another witch-related tweet. Can we take these as a hint for an upcoming release?

I suppose its not out of line with reason for Criterion to release The Witch - if the New Years clue does end up being The Bling Ring.

A24 seems very much like a company that would love to work with Criterion for some of their films' releases.

When you're dealing with a murderers' row of cinematographers like this, you have to shoot in widescreen.
From left to right: Emmanuel Lubezki, John Bailey, Dean Cundey, Ed Lachman, John Seale, and Caleb Deschanel.

Criterion shared this image on their social media today, saying it was a single frame at the front of a reel they were working on.

Obviously indicates it's not from whatever they *are* working on, but on Tumblr they did attach a tag saying '1942'.

"When we receive scans for restoration of an original film element, they come in reels. Each reel has leader and countdown.
In this unusual case we discovered a single frame of something we hadn’t seen before, which was creepy and not-quite-human (fitting, for the film):"

This, along with the tag "1942" from Tumblr, has me hoping and a'praying it's Cat People.

(And if it's not, I'll still be hoping and a'praying anyway.)

Funny that after all those years of complaining about there being no animated films in the collection, here we are with Fantastic Mr. Fox, Watership Down, Fantastic Planet and soon Thunderbirds Are Go!
