Roma is in a different boat than most of the "World Films" title because MGM/UA owned a piece of the movie—it was a UA co-production, as was Satyricon. MGM inherited Raise the Red Lantern and To Live from Orion and The Samuel Goldwyn Company, respectively, and I doubt either of those companies actually had an ownership stake in those films. In other words, I wouldn't be surprised if MGM's rights to those titles have already expired. Bard College screened Raise the Red Lantern in 2014 as part of the Hou Hsiao-hsien retrospective (I guess because Hou is credited as a producer, though he claims he didn't really do anything except introduce Zhang to the Taiwanese production company), but no print source is listed. It does look like MGM still has Rhapsody in August, which was also an Orion title—maybe that one was a co-production, but I don't know.

Criterion just dropped a big hint on their FB page, posting screencaps from an episode of The O.C., in which a character discusses "The Decalogue."

Taylor Townsend! We have a whole thread somewhere on here about Criterion references on the OC, only fitting for the label to finally return the favor

This photo of Anouk Aimee was posted on Criterion's Instagram a few days. Maybe it's a big nothing-burger, but a new restoration of Lelouch's A Man and a Woman was screened at Cannes in May. Plus, the man sitting across from her looks a little like Jean-Louis Trintignant.
criterioncollection: Hope your evening is as fabulous as Anouk Aimée.

I'm pretty sure that's from Cukor's Justine.

I cannot get over how much it looks like she's pulling tape out of that other woman's mouth.

I get sorting them by spine but it all looks so incredibly random that way.

I feel like we should have a separate thread on the closet.

For anyone who was wondering if Criterion had a closet stash of OPP discs, I note a conspicuous lack of Pierrot le Fou between 4 by Varda and The Last Emperor

They should at least separate the DVDs from the Blu Rays. It would also certainly help many of those who can enter this room, since they sometimes seem to be picking the format randomly (except a few people who seems to know a bit better, I think that was the case for Del Toro and Maddin).

I guess the emphasis in the closet videos is more on the initial 'raiding' and the stories of encounters with films that people have had rather than the on camera moment being the only opportunity to choose things. I'd like to think that off camera after the video someone takes them aside and sorts out all the format issues (and potential region coding issues for international guests) for them!

(And while I'm daydreaming maybe there is an even more VIP closet with limited quantities of the OOP titles that even the celebrities don't get unlimited access to!)

There are two OOP titles that have had bronzing issues, and so far it appears they've been able to replace all copies, so they do seem to have a stash of OOP titles available in-house.

Oh, very certainly. It's the opportunity to listen some of these casually remembering specific memories around a movie they usually have nothing official to do with.

In the Chris Eigeman DVD Closet video he asked for Contempt and the person recording said it was "out of print, but..." and we never heard the but. So maybe they have a few to give away.

Criterion posted a picture of Pedro Almodóvar on Instagram. Perhaps another one of his films will be joining the collection tomorrow (and by tomorrow I mean probably Monday).

Criterion tweeted a picture of Pedro Almodovar

Perhaps a box set is happening sooner rather than later?

I hope that's a clue and not because they thought that was a great photo to share. Looks like he just woke up in that polo shirt and would rather not be having his picture taken at the moment.

Criterion tweeting an image for Luis Garcia Berlanga on an announcement day? Could it be?

(He's always struck me as a name I'd assume they'd go after given his relative scarcity outside of his native Spain - I will set my hopes high for both El Verdugo and Placido...)

Oh man. This would be wonderful. I hope they're not relegated to Eclipse (maybe they'll include Almodovar in the supplements, hence yesterday's shout out).

On Instagram they posted a picture of a paper fortune teller, with Linklater characters

This is a director where even an Eclipse would be a blessing. But I don't think they'd tease it like this for that.

(Though I believe they made a similar post that for the Varda USA Eclipse?)

That's taken from Waking Life, so maybe we're getting that in addition to Boyhood and the Before movies (although one could make the case that it is part of that series).
