It's not as if Gergiev is the only one who can conduct Swan Lake; anyway, this set isn't for people who care who's conducting. (They'd likely have at least one recording of it already.)

I don't know about the US, but I'm willing to bet considerably more people in Britain have heard of André Previn than Valery Gergiev - at least if you took a random vox-pop sample in the street. Appearing on Morecambe & Wise does have its publicity dividends.

By the same token, more people have heard of Tom Cruise than Godard, maybe Godard should try for an appearance on Oprah.

Black Swan opens in Japan; surpasses $305 million worldwide. So has Fox's 3D CG movie "Rio" in far less time, but this one didn't cost $12 million to make. :)

That's childish and poorly thought out. I mean that first square suggests he'd abort on The Red Shoes

Not necessarily. That's a pretty batshit movie if you watch it cockeyed.

Okay you're right, The Company then? either way it seems the horror movie equivalent to 'let's watch some 'splosions'.

I think this was made on a dare, some other critic who disliked it insisted that he explain why he did in a flowchart. While mine would probably go a lot more in-depth about how excellent Portman was and how definitive a portrait of obsession over success in one's artform the film was, this is fun anyway.
