Nice, I was about to pick up N+A for the Oscars list. Expirement in Terror has been OOP in R1 for many years, with a resale market price gouging to match-- though I picked up the R2 for under $5 not that long ago.

Bonjour Tristesse at Bluray.com.

Kaufmann gives the film 3/5 stars because of some sort of "moral decrepitude at the heart of Bonjour Tristesse that eats away at its very dramatic soul" (whatever that means) and because the way Seberg speaks her lines is too affected for "the supposed intimate character of the film."
"Her weirdly crisp pronunciations (listen to those 't's!)"? I guess Kaufmann should take a leaf from Six Degrees of Separation, where one of Paul's first lessons in becoming upper-class is to say "bott-le of beer" instead of "bodd-ill a bee-ya."

My favorite sentences in the review:

Preminger no doubt probably still couldn't care less what I or anyone thinks, despite the fact that the director shuffled off this mortal coil some time ago.

There's a Freudian subtext (some might argue text) to Bonjour Tristesse that is perfectly in keeping with the equally Freudian concept of a director being obsessed with a young blonde.

I'm totally unfamiliar with any such Freudian concept.
The fact that Preminger cast a young, inexperienced actor like Seberg gave Hollywood gossipers at the time all the reason they felt they needed to let their imaginations run wild and spread malicious rumors, and people like Kaufmann have continued to do so, seemingly to make it appear as if they actually know something about something. Judging from this review, Kaufmann wants so hard to believe that Preminger was obsessed with young blondes, but by all accounts he was not. His known relationships with women show no such pattern. What a load of pompous review filler.

Among other things (like Seberg being a fine actress and perfectly cast), Preminger felt he owed her one after the horrible drubbing her debut performance in his Joan of Arc film took.

Preminger had her under contract before the production of Joan. I agree about her being a natural for the role.

Frank Prinzi (DP on the 1990 Night of the Living Dead) doesn't seem to be as sold on the new color timing as Savini:

I have to let you know that I haven't seen the transfer on Blu-ray, on a good screen, yet. I just saw [a] quick clip on the internet and what I saw looked bad. I was consulted verbally a couple of years back but was never given a "first draft" copy of the transfer to give my true feedback. It went from words to visuals. The range of interpretation is limitless. The words "cool" or "darker" can be taken in so many ways that without a visual marker to refer to, one can go in any direction. From what I hear the direction taken did not bring pleasing results to many.

If only it was any other company releasing it.

I'm surprised that's happening, considering that Fox has revived the Studio Classics line with regular blu-ray announcements for next year. It seems like they release Gentleman's Agreement every single year, so it's sad to see Fox fail to give a superior multi-Academy-Award-winner one blu-ray release.

Somebody at Twilight Time has a sense of humor -- De Palma's The Fury is paired with a film about an evil Plymouth Fury . . .

Thrilled about the The Fury! I don't think I've seen Christine since middle school, but the others are must haves.
