It's nice to see Criterion making more of an effort to acquire cult/genre titles as of late. Eating Raoul is not a personal favorite but the eventual Criterion should make a lot of people happy. (I did like it though)

Looks like good news for people who missed the MoC box of Naruses- I wonder if Criterion's working up another Eclipse set for him?

They're releasing Eating Raoul, Fucking Åmål, and Chasing Amy in a "doing stuff to proper nouns" boxset.

I wonder if Criterion will license Chopping Mall for the extended cameo with Bartel and Woronov reprising their characters...

Has Criterion commented on the lack of new film additions? I subscribed to Hulu Plus primarily for the promise of the entire Criterion Collection, and so far it's been either minor stuff, or things I already own. Right now I'm using it to watch said Minor Stuff and schlocky TV and I'm coming closer and closer to canceling.

Wait, since when was the whole collection promised?

Here

I don't know if the entire collection was ever promised, but they definitely said over 800 films. I also check Hulu regularly for more films and have been more and more dismayed at the lack of recent updates.

Edit: On closer inspection, Becker did say, "On Hulu Plus, you'll find everything in our library..." He also made it sound like each month there would be significant, themed updates.

It's obvious that people visiting the Criterion section of Hulu are just looking for spank material. I could see Criterion losing interest in updating their Hulu offerings if the only material getting hits is the erotica stuff.

That's just speculation. You have no statistics on this. Just because more people are watching Premiers Désirs than are watching Bitter Rice doesn't mean that nobody's watching the latter.

Your right. That's exactly what I've been using it for. Salo all the way for my personal needs.

I just meant that if you visit the Criterion hulu page, it shows what the most viewed films are and it's always the sexually explicit stuff that Hulu has tagged as erotica.

That's what you meant by your first sentence, and I understood that. It's your second sentence I'm taking issue with.

I absolutely agree. The fact that the "spank material" gets the most hits likely has far more to do with all the people who signed up to Hulu Plus to get the latest episodes of American Dad looking for some titulation. Bonus cross-over, maybe.... but not exactly what I would think they would use to measure the success of the Hulu channel.

Ironically enough, Bitter Rice was once considered to be spank material, too. But spank material with a message, of course.

From filmreference.com:
"Giuseppe De Santis's Riso amaro, with [Vittorio] Gassman opposite Silvana Mangano in what was considered a shockingly erotic work, was a box-office success..."

Ha, I just pulled that film out of the air. I haven't seen it, but leave it to me to pick the one film at random that undermines my entire argument.
