When was the last time someone got mauled by a bear and won Best Actor?Ribs wrote:When was the last time somebody won Best Actor after getting full-frontal naked in a movie?
Not to mention the ceremony, remember who's hosting.domino harvey wrote:Now to endure a month and a half of outraged think pieces regarding the racial makeup of the nominees, hooray!

John Ford and Joseph Mankiewicz. Hasn't happened in over 65 years.FrauBlucher wrote:Has there ever been a director that won an Oscar in back to back years?
Yeah, Rock can be unbearable. Even having him announce the Best Animated Feature a while back was excruciating.domino harvey wrote:Friendly mod note: Even in jest(?), do not call others here racists for not liking Chris Rock or not wanting to endure Internet think pieces
Not sure what Chris Rock hosting has to do with internet think pieces about racial makeup of nominees except that Rock is black, which seems like an odd nudge nudge connection to yuk it up about on here. But OKdomino harvey wrote:Friendly mod note: Even in jest(?), do not call others here racists for not liking Chris Rock or not wanting to endure Internet think pieces
Not quite as bile-inducing as Oscar-nominee Kristen Wiig.criterion10 wrote:Adam McKay: Oscar-Nominated Director of Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and Step Brothers (give me the cyanide now please)
Did you see this film? Or are you passing judgment based on the prior work alone?criterion10 wrote:Adam McKay: Oscar-Nominated Director of Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and Step Brothers (give me the cyanide now please)
I have seen it. (Brief thoughts: It's okay, but McKay's direction was one of my least favorite parts of the film. Didn't care for the Scorsese-like editing, fourth wall cutaways, etc. Think it had a lot of potential, but didn't quite do it for me.)mfunk9786 wrote:Did you see this film? Also his prior work is good showing him to be a great director of (comedic) action without necessarily getting into stylistic obviousness ala Wes Anderson (who I would say is a better director, but his films are his in big shiny neon). Also with his increased political focus (The Other Guys basically ends in a rant that perfectly precedes this film) it was just a matter of time for him to make something more dramatic. Or to say it another way; better McKay than Roach.mfunk9786 wrote:Did you see this film? You are the one who quoted both of those items together as evidence of the forum being "anti-black" (in a post I deleted for breaking basic rules of decorum). Now knock it off.mfunk9786 wrote:Not sure what Chris Rock hosting has to do with internet think pieces about racial makeup of nominees except that Rock is black, which seems like an odd nudge nudge connection to yuk it up about on here. Am I imagining things? Sorry for also quoting your comment in the original post, but my curiosity still stands.lacritfan wrote:Not to mention the ceremony, remember who's hosting.domino harvey wrote:Now to endure a month and a half of outraged think pieces regarding the racial makeup of the nominees, hooray!
I know, it was a tongue-in-cheek joke that I probably shouldn't have made. (For the record: There are some funny moments in both Talladega Nights and Step Brothers.)mfunk9786 wrote:That makes a lot more sense than trashing other films that aren't nominated/weren't nominated for anything.
