Also, the quote from Rivette about the winter theme doesn't preclude the use of incandescent lighting in the aquarium or the other interior shots. The capture demonstrating the subtitles is the only exterior screencap, and it does look wintery, and not yellow at all.

No, I haven't seen Duelle in 1976 and I don't know how it's supposed to look like.
As I've already explained, a golden-tinted transfer suppervised by Caroline Champetier would make me go "Huh, I guess all those prints were wrong".

So, I've never seen any of the films in this set (nor any Rivette in general), but have been really interested in Out 1. I'm also in the US and don't have a region free player (although I keep meaning to get one!). Do you guys think I should just stick with the Carlotta release of Out 1, or are the other films in this box set worth the extra money as well as having to finally get that new player?
I keep seeing people saying that this is a set that shouldn't be slept on and that it'll go up in value etc, but the last time Arrow revealed stock numbers, wasn't it only like 40% sold out?

The other films in the set you'll be able to play on any American player. Only Out 1 would require a new player, but that's for the blu ray only. The DVD copies (I can't remember but I believe this is dual format) should play on any computer.

It was 40% sold out 2 months ago and it still isn't out for another week. I very much doubt this thing will still be available for reasonable prices a year from now.

The DVDs are region locked in much the same way as the BDs. But it might be easier to get around the region locking on DVD vs BD, if that's what you mean.

Wait, the only film region-locked is Out 1? How about Out 1: Spectre?
I'll be patiently waiting for my Rivette Arrow all the way in Lima, PerĂº. I'm very nervous since we have a notoriously bad postal service.

Computers with VLC as a player can play any region in America at least. That's how I watch region 2 etc discs.

I would just do that, but my Macbook doesn't have a disc drive.
I've got the Carlotta Out 1 coming from Amazon today, so I'll try to decide whether or not to return it. I've never seen any of Rivette's films before, so the Arrow set is kind of a big leap, yknow?

Spectre is reportedly also Region B/2-locked.

As long as a DVD is Region 0, it will play anywhere. My copy of the Tartan UK Bergman
The Rite plays both on VLC and the standard MAC DVD player. By contrast, the BFI
Paris Nous Appartient and Artificial Eye
Historie(s) du Cinema are Region 2 and will not play even with VLC.

Can you hook up an external DVD player to it? Also- some North American DVD players have codes that can be used to convert them to all-regions players. Check around online to see if yours is one of those. Like
criterion10 mentioned here.

That's very strange. I have the same AE Godard and a very ordinary comp and it plays perfectly fine.

Once again I am confused by the usage of the placeholder "includes perfect-bound book" text. Do they actually have the final product, or just the discs and are going off the unchanged website listing for the extras? I'm a bit (and this remains a very minor bit) disappointed that it's switched back from the hardcover Arrow said would be coming.

Hardback.

Is there supposed to be a booklet visible in that photo? All I can see is the DVD case surrounded by discs.
Edit: Oh wait. That is the book in the middle, isn't it. Lol.

BTW, speaking of that guy, he just posted stock levels again. Rivette is still only 40% sold out.

Mine just shipped from Arrow.
(Hope it didn't get shipped together with sale order I placed early this morning.)

Wow! If you don't mind my asking--when did you get a shipment confirmation/where are you based? Can't wait!

I'm in London, I imagine most UK folk will receive theirs today. Got the shipping confirmation last night, probably around the same time as everyone else.

London as well, it came this morning and I didn't get a shipping notification.
I was being stupid and didn't realise that when they said "perfect bound" they meant hardback, it's impressive. I've only flicked through it so far but I was caught by the essay for MERRY-GO-ROUND describing the behind-the-scenes woes: fuck me does the film sound like a mess.

Mine has arrived too (UK but nowhere near London) by courier - sent on a "24 hour" service.

I bit and ordered one in bed last night!
