It's also standard for the some of the Kimstim releases.

I'd be surprised if Becker is terribly fond of all the films taking up spines 1-600. I really like Certified Copy too and it should be available in North America, but there are so many things that should be much higher priorities for Criterion -- the Koker Trilogy, to name one (which, with any luck, they're working on now). The AE Certified Copy is such a lovely bargain at £6.49, and adding to the incentive is that it's region-free. Personally, I didn't mind at all that the extra features are SD.

Of course,
Police, Adj. was also up for grabs, and almost two years after its theatrical release a lowly DVD-only release from Zeitgeist was announced.

You're in luck.

Right, that's what I meant to refer to. Trying to contain my excitement in case it doesn't pan out, but if it does, it'll surely be a contender for release of the year.

True, but
Police, Adj. has a little different cachet, didn't it?
Certified Copy was a Cannes prizewinner starring a major well-known actress by an internationally acclaimed master filmmaker who has other titles in the Collection. To top it all off, it even had a nice little US box-office run, grossing over a million bucks.
I saw
Police, Adj. theatrically and admired it, and would have welcomed a Criterion edition, but it's just not in the same league, visibility-wise. It played at Cannes but outside competition, has no actors recognizable to anyone who hasn't seen other Romanian movies, it made only $50,000 at the US box office, and it's made by an obviously talented director that nonetheless including this film has only two, relatively unknown feature films to his credit.
I don't mean this as a comment on the relative merits of each film, just that it's harder to imagine
Certified Copy falling through the home video cracks like
Police, Adj. did.

Zeitgeist has been releasing some IFC titles that neither Criterion nor MPI want. ex) They also recently released "Daddy Long-Legs".

Alright, 2 days away and here are my guesses:
The Gold Rush
Lean/Coward box
The Last Temptation of Christ DVD & BD upgrade w/ Scorsese short films
A Night to Remember BD upgrade
Wild Strawberries BD upgrade

I'm hoping that if they announce a Lean/Coward box, they'll announce upgrades of Oliver Twist and Great Expectations at the same time.

Is there any reason to think there will be a Lean/Coward box set and not just Blithe Spirit? Personally, I'd rather see upgrades to the Lean films already in the collection over more Lean/Coward ones.

Wild Strawberries would be most welcome!

The Hollis Frampton set (I'm assuming Eclipse) was mentioned to be due in March. If true, that alone makes it a huge month.

With Criterion's amount of latest outputs, I wouldn't hold out for anything much, let alone upgrades.

My predictions:
Y Tu Mama Tambien (just so everybody will shut up about it)
The Last Temptation of Christ
Lean/Coward set
A Night to Remember
I don't think we'll get Wild Strawberries. Remember, the hints in the New Year's drawing aren't always accurate. The Four Feathers was included in the 2010 drawing, after all.

My predictions:
things that are 100% definitely happening because Criterion has told us so in the past two weeks and so aren't actually predictions
filler title that won't be announced
filler title that won't be announced
Gorin Eclipse set

If they released a Koker Trilogy box set, a Jean Gremillon Eclipse, half a dozen leftover Louis Malles, Blu upgrades of
Hoop Dreams,
Koko and
Solo con tu pareja, and
The Vanity Vlogs of Lena Durham that would also make it a huge month.

I hope so as that and
Following were two DVDs I sold in anticipation.
I'm worried I was mistaken when it comes to 'Following' and that was never really forthcoming. Any chance that is still likely to be a Criterion release eventually?

I was referring to Hoop Dreams. That one is great, no question.

Koko's pretty good too, but I don't think anybody needs it on BluRay. Hoop Dreams even less.

I agree on all fronts (though I understand why Koko is beaten on).

Well, since the Newsletter clue is for The Gold Rush, so that's probably coming in May/June.
So now I'm going with:
Y tu mama tambien
Lean/Coward box
The Last Temptation of Christ DVD & BD upgrade w/ Scorsese short films
A Night to Remember BD upgrade
Wild Strawberries BD upgrade

I wouldn't get my hopes up for The Gold Rush being announced for March. The drawings in the newsletter generally hint at a film that will be released in about 5 or 6 months. The Black Moon hint was 4 months, but that's the shortest amount of time I've seen from looking through the newsletters and the corresponding film release dates. We'll most likely see the Lean/Coward set announced for March. *Edit* Didn't refresh the page and see your update until after I posted my reply.
Somehow, I don't see them re-releasing Last Temptation on DVD, I have a feeling it will just be blu-graded. And with the way the past few months have been, that will probably be the only upgrade, so much for Wild Strawberries or Night to Remember. Anyone think his short films may get their own release?
I'm worried I was mistaken when it comes to 'Following' and that was never really forthcoming. Any chance that is still likely to be a Criterion release eventually?
As busy as he is, what with his final Batman film and his Superman project, maybe they've had a hard time getting Nolan to approve the release? If I were Criterion, I'd release Following just before The Dark Knight Rises is released in theaters, when Nolan is on everyone's mind.
