Honestly, I love all of these this month. Hotel Du Nord is STUNNING.

as bad a month for art as for the titles themselves, I have to say

I'm usually pretty neutral on covers overall but even I have no idea what the hell they were thinking with the Daddy Long Legs cover.

I haven’t seen the movie but the Daddy LongLegs cover looks like something the directors envisioned really.

DADDY LONGLEGS - I'll always welcome more Safdie Bros films in the collection, but this cover is...questionable. I can definitely see the aesthetic they're going for, but in my opinion, it doesn't work, at least not as a cover; I could definitely see this image working better as the inside of the case. I haven't seen the film, but based on its description, it really feels as if the characters should be on the cover. And I'm not a fan of the text either; "A SAFDIE BROTHERS FILM" should be smaller than the title of the movie, and it just doesn't mesh well with the cover.

FROWNLAND - This one is more of a mixed bag. I like the underground, grungy style of the image, and I like the text. But I can't stand that green. Even for something thats supposed to look intentionally messy, it just looks badly applied. In my opinion, the green would look a lot better if it was solid.

HOTEL DU NORD - I love this one. Sure, the faces could use some more detail, but the style and tone is otherwise perfect.

BUCK AND THE PREACHER - I really like this one too. Not as dynamic as HOTEL DU NORD, but beautifully illustrated nonetheless.

FAYA DAYI - This is the only movie of the pack that I've actually seen, and having said that, this cover is, in my opinion, the biggest disappointment of the group. Feels more like a first draft, rather than a real cover

Still no INLAND EMPIRE

Inland Empire is the only title we can be absolutely positive is coming in the coming months, it's gonna be okay!

Best month for covers in a long time. All perfect.

Just received my third damaged copy of this. Seems the case is very susceptible to shattering (above and below the two disc tray on the rear side especially), has anyone else experienced this? Also seems kind of psychotic to hide the UHD disc behind the booklet (it's been loose on all three of my returned copies now too), but that's another issue.

People like to turn their noses up at digipaks, but they would be less likely to be damaged than whatever bargain basement clear plastic is being utilized by Criterion these days.

Hmmm...is it not the same 3-disc case that we saw for Judex, All That Heaven Allows, L'eclisse, All That Jazz, etc.? I hadn't had an issue before

It feels much flimsier and more packed tight than those did, but maybe? Would have to grab one and compare, but have never had a 3-disc case feel this brittle and flimsy before (just anecdotally)

I believe the most recent three disc release in a plastic case was for The Human Condition, but I may be forgetting one, if anyone wants to compare. I haven't watched that edition yet so can't comment on packaging but I never had an issue with the 2014 era dual format cases

I either buy direct from CC or in person at B&N so haven't ran into this issue just yet, curious what's going on with this title..which is really one that should've been in a digipack with a large booklet, but I know I'm preaching to the choir here

Honestly these are all bang-up and any could have been the actual cover. Fantastic work by her.

Feel the exact same way about the Blow Out cover- one of my favorites in the collection

Except it loses the best touch, where all of the Criterion branding is similarly handwritten

I concur. And they went with "hand-written" branding for at least three Wes Anderson releases, so why not his one?

I'm not against the Exotica cover (I don't typically have strong feelings about any covers), but it's so different than any other image, poster, or media cover I've seen from that film the last nearly 30 years that it didn't even register at first that it was a cover for Exotica. It's just a little weirdly too colourful.
