Easily the most gruesome films ever to be bestowed with the VS Secret Title honor, both are coming to 4K UHD fully uncut and uncensored and newly restored from their original negatives!

One, a mid 90s splatter fest by a master of (on-screen) murder, and the other a truly unsettling early 80s psycho-thriller, that’s about as psychotic as they come and, for the first time ever, will be presented in its completely uncensored version, featuring minutes of ferocious carnage never before seen on video in any release or format!

Here are the hints for the rest of May's slate
Our second May Cinématographe, featuring the 4K UHD debut of a similarly celebratory masterpiece from another legend of American cinema.

Our next VS Archive, which offers the Blu-ray debut of an action-packed and very bloody Hong Kong hit, guaranteed to offer jaw-dropping stunts and merciless bloodshed.

Our next VS Labs, featuring a gorgeous, new, Director-approved restoration of a criminally under-seen, star-studded, and yes…giallo-adjacent early 70s euro-thriller/mystery, which is making its worldwide Blu-ray debut.

Our next Pink Line release, which will showcase another newly restored trio of shocking Pinku perversities from the genre’s master, Hisayasu Satô!

And, of course, this package wouldn’t be complete without our set of VS Halfway Sale Secret Surprise Titles! This time we’re all in on horror with two terrifyingly gruesome chillers, one early 80s and the other mid 90s, both making their uncut and uncensored 4K UHD debuts, and in one case, it's uncut and uncensored home video debut (not even the initial VHS releases were complete). While both films promise plenty of grisly thrills, one now features so much never-before-seen gore and violence that it literally adds minutes to its runtime!

The Hand is with WB, so it could be for that. Surprised Shout haven't gotten to it since they seem to be Stone's label of choice lately.

What an assemblage of trans perspectives on Come Back to the 5 and Dime. Similarly, what a nice surprise that AGFA is releasing the Jane Schoenbrun Kati Kelli “mixtape”, I was just wondering if that had ever even remotely come out. And what a waste of resources to 4K-restore the American Nightwatch, pretty bad with one of the most obvious just-look-at-the-credits “surprise” killers you could imagine. They couldn’t even get Steven Soderbergh to sit down and explain his writing credit on it.

There is also speculation that it will be Splatter: Naked Blood (1996).

'master of (on-screen) murder' Is this suitable for Sato?

Wouldn't that be included in one of the Sato sets that they've been doing for their Pinku line?

Pretty disappointing, speaking as a diehard Altman fan. Not really a film screaming out for a UHD and the other releases have been great
Yep. UCLA’s restoration is fantastic and it’s had good releases. I’d rather see a neglected title. Same with Explorers

The other releases for 5 & Dime have been OOP, so I see nothing wrong with releasing this. Never seen it before but it looks to be a great release and I will happily blind buy it.

Oh, it’s a wonderful film for sure. One of Altman’s best-looking works as well, despite being shot in 16mm by Pierre Mignot (who is alive and working, but has never participated in any Altman-related discs, books, or documentaries)

It's a wonderful film, which I was lucky enough to catch in 35 for the first time a few years ago. Goes in directions you wouldn't expect. One of my favorite Altmans for sure.

Sounds like this is a safe blind buy for me! Wondering if I should buy it during the Halfway to BF sale or wait for the BF sale to get it for a discount...

Probably not as it’s not a Pink film and has so much crossover appeal for horror fans. But who knows!

Not sure if I mentioned before but some of Satô’s gay films are being worked on, including Muscle, going by some social media posts from disc producers. But it’s hard to know if they will be in the next batch or if they will get their own 5 film Satô set for all his gay movies (Temptation of the Mask, Bondage Ecstacy, Muscle, The Fetist, Hunter’s Sense of Touch).

So to clarify; are the hinted other titles quoted by dwk ones due to be announced upon commencement of the sale?

Spoiler
Apropos for this film but a bit of a spoiler as to why if you’re going in blind! (not that there needs to be any “reason” for utilizing trans film critics, but it explains why they’re labeled as such)

It's already spoiled by the top Letterboxd reviews (including by one from someone who is involved with the extras)

Looks like the Come Back… MoC BD is a safe sell as all of the extras are ported over to the VS apart from the trailer and the booklet essays.

Personally, I doubt I would’ve gotten to it by now if I hadn’t known about this, and while it is a surprise it comes early enough that I didn’t think to treat it as a verboten secret. I noticed the package synopsis mentions it, if not at first, and I just don’t think it would be honest or useful to dance around such an integral part of the movie. “Bit of a spoiler” is about right but I wouldn’t want someone to not know what Karen Black is thinking in her first moments on-screen.

And now that you've associated one T-word with another, you've just given it away to someone who hasn't yet seen it.

Cheers for that.

I only ever had the Eureka release so this is great news. Caden Mark Gardner and Willow Maclay's book Corpses, Fools, and Monsters is a great resource if anyone is curious.

world UHD debut of an early film from one of America’s most important, and controversial, filmmakers
A more likely candidate is The Boys in the Band.
