So I guess the intern has time to fuck around with Instagram, but he can't really be bothered with things like the monthly releases

If it was this, I would be thrilled like I've never been for a long time for Criterion.
I would be equally thrilled with Little Buddha or the new restoration of The Last Emperor in 2D.

I'm sure he was just invited as they are doing the retrospective of his film works in New York. Anyway, if there was justice in this world, they'd be interviewing him for Femme Fatale.
As an aside, I have to say I adore Ryuichi Sakamoto. I have a ton of his albums on vinyl and CDs and will buy anything if he's remotely involved in it (this goes for all members of Yellow Magic Orchestra). I have singles, 12" mixes, Japanese pressings, and even a rare 5" radio promo. This might be the first closet guest I have been excited about in a long time.

So, what happened?
Why there was no announcement in social media that the announcements haven been postponed?

There was an announcement on Google Plus that the Twitter announcement announcing the delayed announcement would be delayed.

A lack of announcement for why there's no announcement about an announcement. Delicious.

Someone on Blu-ray.com has pointed out that when you browse Criterion's catalog, Sid and Nancy no longer displays 'out of print' underneath. However, it does display 'out of print' from the film's main webpage.

Apropros of nothing but who has the rights to release
The Wings of Honneamise (with its score by Sakamoto) in the US?

It's out on U.S. DVD and Blu from Section23, one of the several successors to ADV. Before that it was briefly available from Bandai (on HD DVD too!), and long before that from Manga (who included a subtitled directors' commentary that wasn't carried over to the subsequent editions).

Janus changed their cover photo to a still from The Passion of Joan of Arc. Seems like we'll finally get to see that Gaumont restoration that was announced years ago.

The only movie I can think of that it could possibly be is A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.

Her film is already out in a nice edition from Kino Lorber. I'm sure she's there to talk about a film or filmmaker that influenced her.

Please be The House is Black in that case, though I suspect it will probably be a Giallo or something like that.

I think that is most likely something for FilmStruck, as they tend to shoot those interviews in their library.
