"Based on the best extant elements of the film, DVD-only is the optimal way to go on this title. The 1st DVD release ever in the UK!"

That is a truly stellar line-up. Lovely to see some Kinugasa enter the collection, I hope it bodes well for a much-requested silent in 2013...

So "Floating Weeds" was not part of the 32 films that BFI got? What about the silent version "Story Of Floating Weeds"?

Excellent announcement. Die Nibelungen is the one I'm really excited for. Also Gate of Hell. Trouble in Paradise was a big lack in R2. so many great Lubitsch films never been released in UK.

Passion of Joan of Arc sounds a brilliant package, though it's not really a favourite film of mine.

In September, a trifecta: (1) Pasolini's OEDIPUS REX (dip-back into REAL final-final Pasolini...) on Dual Format and (update) standalone DVD
Cecil B. DeMille's masterpiece CLEOPATRA, on Dual Format (BD + DVD), and (update) standalone DVD!

The other Ozu title that AE had the rights for was THE END OF SUMMER. Perhaps a 2013 title for MoC?

Add RoGoPaG to that DVD standalone additions. Seems like an odd choice to go back to a separate DVD only edition. What's the point of Dual format then? It not catch on as hoped?

I think AE didn't have rights for that one, so possibly this is among those 32. In that case I would count for a nice box of Kihachi films from BFI (one of which is obviously "The Story of Floating Weeds"). This would be a nice follow-up to "Student Comedies" and "Gangster Films" boxes.
