Several Futures continues to have out the coolest output. The Razor’s Edge is an impressionistic portrait of adolescence numbed by / dazzled by / scarred by endless war. Saab invents a fragile fiction in the ruins of her own city while the bullets and the bombs are really still flying in the background. Plus, Juliet Berto shows up for reasons I can’t remember. It’s a bit scattershot, but I found it inspired and moving.

I didn’t realize it but Vinegar Syndrome is releasing Night School on 4K (probably because I’m so used to seeing the theatrical poster instead of the cover art VS used) and while it’s not a good movie at all and remains a blur, it does have the sexiest use of a pomegranate I’ve seen captured on film so it has that going for it. Haven’t seen Body Snatchers but I’ll probably check it out before buying it and I do love seeing more Ferrara on 4K.

I've been wanting to see this for over 3 decades. Hope it may have been coming since it was recently restored and I'm so pleased to see it make it's physical media premiere (if I'm not mistaken).

Not in the same league as Genesis (2018) or The Demons (2015). I can't remember if it is largely shot in extreme close-up or long shots, and I can't tell from the trailer. The style made the film very distancing to me and somewhat uninvolving.

I’d mostly agree with this – Who by Fire doesn’t quite reach the transcendent power of Genesis, but it’s still a nuanced and at times intense exercise in putting a bunch of people together in one space and letting the various tensions slowly ratchet up. There’s also a bunch of magic-realist-style formalist flourishes, some of which work better than others.

Not sure if people have seen these, but a couple of recent films Who by Fire reminded me of a lot were Good One and Falcon Lake, and of those three I’d say Lesage’s film is easily the most successful. If you liked either of those then I can’t imagine you wouldn’t enjoy this one at least as much.

I posted about this, but a new restoration of Nadja premiered at MoMA back in January (I was there - a memorable evening, even Hal Hartley came out for it) and it later opened at BAM. So I'm guessing Nadja?

(If it wasn't for that, I would've guessed Another Girl Another Planet which makes far more extensive use of Pixelvision, but I imagine a 4K master of Nadja is ready to go and hence ripe for a UHD reissue.)

Also, in case anyone missed it, Michael Almereyda's producers did say the next restoration of his films (currently being worked on with Criterion) would be his adaptation of Hamlet.

Nadja is credited to Grasshopper and Arbelos, neither of whom I’m aware of having a licensing agreement with VS (or anyone else). I’d expect Arbelos to release that themselves.

Knowing VS they’ll issue something shot on shitteo as a 4K disc because they know someone will pay $80 for it.

In my high school AP American history class, the teacher at the end of the school year played for us a VHS documentary inspecting the Zapruder film again and again and featuring footage from all the cameras rolling in that area at the exact moment. I’ve actively have tried to find this tape to no avail.

I had a thought earlier this week about VS eventually putting out a 4K UHD of KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, a film that seems to have been only available as a PD/grey market release since it first came out. Doubt that’s what the actual announcement will be tomorrow, but it feels comparable to the type of film we’ll eventually get.

George Romero’s original cut of Martin would be their biggest score ever.
