I dunno, at this point, 90% of the thread is off topic, so I almost wouldn't even know where to begin splitting the discussion off. In any case, this thread isn't meant for discussion of the films in the boxset, just for the boxset itself, and discussion of stock quickly running out is certainly relevant. Here are the individual threads where the films can be discussed:

52-53 / BD 36 Ugetsu monogatari + Oyū-sama

54-55 / BD 37 Sanshō dayū + Gion bayashi

56-57 / BD 71 Chikamatsu monogatari + Uwasa no onna

58-59 / BD 72 Akasen chitai + Yokihi

I doubt it. Each retailer knows their allocation and won't accept more orders after they reach it.

Geez, you guys have got me all twitchy. I pre-ordered early from Amazon so hopefully it'll be all good. I went with them originally because I find their packaging has been a little more reliable for bigger sets like this. The tax they take off is also a nice coup, I'll miss that when I move back to Europe.

This is how the Naruse situation should have played out. (Sorry Michael!)

I ordered a copy just to stop you from getting one. Yes, you, reading this thread after the set goes OOP. Sucka!

Theoretically that's true, but I have been shafted with a pre-order from US Amazon in the past (the Codeine box set last year). Fortunately, Numero did a second printing and I got it direct from them.

Maybe it would if they were to announce a limited edition Blu-ray boxset of Naruse's films. (Only one way to find out...)

Alas, I think THAT train has already left the station. Besides, I want MORE subbed Naruse films available -- rather than spiffier versions of the (quite nice) releases already available.

I would note that I had hoped to ultimately see releases of the important _missing_ Mizoguchi films. So, the BluRay good-bye-releases are bittersweet.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mizoguchi's 47 Ronin gets a release at somepoint.

Portrait of Madame Yuki (one of Mizoguchi's most visually stunning films) is still among the missing.

Hell, I just caved and switched my order to Eureka direct too. This is too nerve-rattling for me. I need to get out of the movie-buying biz. It's a young man's game.

I'm hoping with everyone switching to Eureka that will ensure me one of Amazon's allocated copies.

There is no Late Mizoguchi box. For 38 pounds, we will all receive a letter informing us that the set was within ourselves the entire time

Sticking with Amazon, if it doesn't work out (damaged or never shipped), I still end up with 1/2 of the movies on blu and half on dvd. Which would kind of suck, but so does rebuying these movies over (and over) again.

I just received the following message from Moviemail who I pre-ordered the set from ,

"you ordered "Late Mizoguchi Box Set (Masters of Cinema) (Limited Edition)" from us. Unfortunately we are not yet in a position to supply this title. Our stock controller's notes indicate that:
This item will now be released 28th November 2013"

has anyone else heard of a delay , Amazon still list Oct 28th as release date

As of 5 days ago, Eureka had this to say:
We have had a small delay on the Late Mizoguchi - Eight Films – these are due with us towards the middle of next week and will ship as soon as they arrive

Moviemail were slow to update the release date. It's 28th it's due out.

Also Eureka posted this. 6 Hours ago.
Only 12 left of our low numbered allocation of the Mizoguchi box. If you want a low number, get in now!
Zavvi appear to be sold out, so the remaining places for it are Moviemail, Sainsburys, Amazon and Eureka!(assuming they haven't sold their remaining 12).

As with all MoC releases these days. They're almost certainly locked.
