I like that New York, New York cover if for the simple fact it's a studio release without pictures of the actors on it. Which never, ever happens.

Well, the cover still indirectly features Minnelli and De Niro, in caritcature instead of in person, though I agree with your point generally about studio release covers always featuring actors. In theory it's commendable, but the execution is (IMO) so poor that I have no respect for it (and this one is close enough to being just another actor cover that I don't think it's any better- I prefer the older MGM one over it).

EDIT- Again, before I knew it was Hirschfeld himself who did the drawings, and I was misguided in calling it "just another actor cover", though I stand by liking the old MGM cover better.

When you're complaining about the execution, are you meaning Al Hirschfeld's drawings or the cover as a whole? I like the Hirschfeld portraits, and they were used as original poster art, but the title looks horrible.

Ignorance on my part, souvenir, for not knowing the portraits were by Hirschfeld himself: I thought they were done in an imitation of his style, and that was partly the reason for my complaint (I thought it was Hirschfeld done badly).
And, regardless of my personal feelings on the quality of these particular Hirschfield drawings (the Minnelli one especially), at least knowing that the cover is keeping in the spirit of an aspect of the original ad campaign of the movie makes me think of the cover in a bit kinder of a light. You are certainly right about the title being all wrong, not at all keeping in the style of the movie. I still don't like the cover overall, but I'll at least (however begrudgingly) grant it the respect due for not just being another standard studio hack cover.

Didn't know that Jamie Foxx was a "real" rap artist.

When you run into yourself you run into feeling you thought you never had, feelings that run so hard they almost knock you off your feet or bash into your shoulder as they pass, making you turn and shout "watch where you're going, damn emotions!", as you run through a city of memory with cobbled streets that make your feet hurt that you can't remember running through before pursued by strange feelings that you think you had never had before but probably did a long time ago such as when you were a baby or something like that, but then that would be strange as babies cannot run so you wouldn't have been able to run into yourself at so young an age......

Otherwise known as Fiona Apple's new LP. Or Lina Wertmuller's new movie.

C'mon, don't diss Fiona -- she only did that "long title" stunt once.

Now Lina, on the other hand....

I kind of prefer the jumping-the-hurdles/hi-nrg version. At least that confusing text seemed less confusing way back when.

The IMDb list of plot keywords might have made a better tagline:

"Lesbianism / Female Nudity / Lesbian / 1970s / Bisexual / Drugs / Injury / Lesbian Scene / Nudity / Olympics / Racetrack / Running / Steam Room / Training / Lesbian Athlete / Track Meet"

This was one of the first 18-rated films I saw in the cinema. It was OK but they got the running to lesbianism ratio all wrong.

It's not like it's worse than the original DVD covers. Besides, everybody knows Sandra Bernhard and Richard E. Grant are the real stars of this movie; why are they not on the cover?

Possible dvd-make tagline: "The only place you can see this...IS ON THE MOON"
