Andrei Rublev and a few Rosselinis are all I need- after that, however much it would hurt, I could live with the economic downturn reducing Criterion to a single Fads&Gimmicks line

Let's cross the fingers for Walkabout on blu-ray... (Bad Timing on Blu-Ray would be great...)
since criterion announced his first batch of blu-rays last year, I almost bought a blu-ray player for Walkabout...

but why... Walkabout redux ?
Since Criterion first CD release it's the complete cut and not a censored version... I've never heard about Nicolas Roeg intentions to re-cut the movie like Coppola's did for Apocalypse Now or Outsiders - the complete novel...

on the other hand, Hangin'Rock has several version, one of these is a director's cut (there's a French DVD with at least 3 versions with "minor" variations...)
I did vote on amazon.com for Hangin'Rock on blu-ray... I'd really like to get this title quickly....

We are Friday, but the 14, not the 15... Do you think that we have to wait until Monday for Criterion announcement or could they announce the new titles at midnight...?

I think by "redux" Jeff means an SD, anamorphic reissue alongside the Blu, like they did with The Seventh Seal & For All Mankind, not a new cut of the film.

Gimme Shelter was on that list too.
Gimme Shelter should--in theory--be a lock for December, what with the 40th anniversary of Altamont.

I love how the last two pages of predictions either completely exclude anything new-to-DVD, or guess something like one new title and five reissues. I guess the new CC has finally beaten our expectations down to its level!

I think most people are just afraid of what a new release might entail and decide to focus their attention on rereleases so as not to despair too much when the inevitable announcement of a Zach Braff film comes along ( [-o< ).

Predictions for the ass-end of '09 (apropos of nothing in particular):

November:

"Che" (SD Box Set and Blu-Ray)
"Cronos" (SD and Blu-Ray)
"Revanche" (SD and Blu-Ray)
Rossellini's War Trilogy Box Set (SD)
"Gimme Shelter" (Blu-Ray)
and an Eclipse set (which I inevitably fail to predict correctly).

December:

"Stagecoach" (a.k.a. "Untitled John Ford Project") (SD and BluRay)
"Walkabout" Reissue (SD and Blu-Ray)
"Insignificance" (SD)
and a new Essential Art House Set.

I get the feeling there's more to come.

I think the fact that there has been pages of .com-esque hypothesizin' about November's releases is proof of the toll Criterion's second half release schedule has taken on us.

.com might get blamed for a lot of things, but we invented this "guess this month's releases" bullshit (see post #4 here).

I believe Jun-dai started it on the old forum. He originally had it set up as a monthly contest with a formula for determining "winners," and there were prizes or bragging rights or something. It's all good, clean fun.

I stand corrected.

And I participate too ( ), I just think it's interesting how the frequency and outlandishness of the guesses has increased as of late, that's all.

It's because there's not as much board time being taken up with talking about Criterion's actual releases, so we have to expend this energy somewhere

Wow. I've been more forgiving than most here the past few months, but this is a MASSIVE disappointment.

Edit: I posted this before I saw "Golden Age of Television." Now THAT sounds interesting.

Wow. I mean. Wow.

At last I'll be able to afford the rest of the Treasures from the American Film Archives series.
