Exactly. The Blu editions released by Kino and Twilight Time in the States are now basically the same (give or take a few extras/booklets) as the editions released by MoC and BFI in the UK. I don't recall anyone having a cow when the BFI released their edition, even though there was already a perfectly good one available, so I'm not getting the shock and awe this seems to be inspiring. Not that I'm the biggest fan of Twilight Time's model, but this is a situation where most people buying it will probably be collectors specifically doing so for the Photoplay restoration, which is said to be better than that used for the Kino/MoC editions. And I don't see anything wrong with that restoration being made available to the U.S. market.

I mean, this release is frankly less questionable than some of their more populist releases like
Steel Magnolias and
As Good As It Gets on that front. Who else
would release this restoration, outside of another boutique label?
Would it make you any happier if Criterion or Cohen Films were releasing it?
Um, yes to every single title TT has released. (This fantastical scenario imagines Criterion having unlimited resources)

I finally got round to watching Miss Sadie Thompson in 3D. It looks fantastic. The film was pretty good too, despite having a reputation of being watered down. Hayworth, a little frayed around the edges which is just right for the part, is very good in what was a comeback role. I’ve read the short story a long time ago which was a lot more harsh but I’ve never seen the two previous adaptations.

If I hadn't already seen the film, this cover art would appear to be something for Giantess magazine (for readers with a "special" interest in women who have grown as large as 75 feet high), straying from their normal subject matter to publish a report about people being plagued by a flea infestation.

But since they seem to have reproduced the image with the aid of a cheap early-1990s color printer, details like the confetti become unrecognizable.

Every time I see a TT sale, I'm refraining to buy some because every time I just give up and order a few of them, they end up getting better releases in the UK. I might cave in and upgrade my French BD of The Boston Strangler though.

Impressed by their presentation of Wild Bill. In particular during darker scenes, blacks are deep, shadow detail exactly as it should be - and range of colours very clear and precise. Of course, in some of the more washed out, blown out daylight scenes (in particular early, before the action moves to Deadwood), the Blu ray can’t show details that aren’t there. Overall this is very strong and healthy & I can forget about the mediocre quality of the one streaming on Netflix.
Only thing, it wasn’t very grainy. Does it look too sharp? Has there been a little degraining or artificial sharpening? That said, there’s some very good detai, details I’ve never seen before, during night scenes that I was extremely happy with.
