It's July, so it'll likely be a really big month. [-o<

Drive My Car
Lost Highway [4K only]
Mean Streets
Once Upon a Time in America
Wings of Desire [4K UHD upgrade / Blu-ray combo]

There's no way it'll get that good though. Additionally, there has been no speculation on Once Upon a Time in America, I'd just welcome it.

Also, I'm still hoping for an Eyes Wide Shut release after all of those hints were dropped by Janus a couple of years back. We shall see.

Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors
Still with Kino Lorber, which continues to hold theatrical and home video rights in the U.S. I think it's in need of a major restoration.

There was a restoration in 2015 for the 50th anniversary of the premiere. No idea how it looks, though—it was scanned at 4K but finished to 2K, so there's room for improvement there. I assume the Japanese BD from 2018 used that restoration, but it's OOP and I can't find any confirmation one way or the other (the packaging just says "HD REMASTER").

I wonder what aspect ratio summertime will be in? From its initial announcement on the trades to its premiere Summertime was described as David Lean’s first foray into widescreen, but it looks really well composed at 1.33, so who knows.

I seem to remember discussing this one years and years ago when it became the last remaining in-print 1998 dvd issue (every other release from that year has been reissued in a new edition or gone OOP). Glad to see it finally (hopefully) get revisited.

Of course that also begs the question about the other two early spine number David lean dvd only versions, Oliver Twist and Great expectations. Maybe they’ll hit all three at once?

Or maybe a cutesie summer theme and we get a 4K release of Early summer and rohmers four seasons alongside summertime lol.

The Complete Works of Pier Paolo Pasolini
Drive My Car (I doubt they'll do a UHD for this one - if they were going to upscale 2K DIs, they surely would have for Worst Person)
Inland Empire
Medicine for Melancholy
Breathless UHD

It's a 2K restoration of a 4K scan. I think that it's the same restoration that's available on VoD from some sources (such as Takflix) and it looks great, particularly when allowing for the limitations of streaming.

I'm gonna arbitrarily make it the pick-up-Japanese-exclusive-stuff month.

Tanaka set (4k restorations)
The Devil, Probably (4k restoration)
The Family Game (4k restoration)
René Clair set (Sous les toits de Paris, À nous la liberté, Le million, Les Grandes Manœuvres, 4k restorations)
The Life of Matsu the Untamed (4k restoration, fix the god-awful color hue)

maybe they will include both ratios like they did for For All Mankind. seems like a possibility. I feel like the two Lean adaptations would definitely be packaged together, I don't think there's a whole lot of reason for them to be individual. but we shall see

Early Summer is a top 3 Ozu film for me and there's a 4K restoration from Shochiku just waiting to be put out into the English speaking world, with Donald Richie's commentary as a nice supplement. hopefully they add a bonus film on there as well, and a video essay from Bordwell/Thompson. I hope that happens (and have asked for it a few months now), and I do think the Rohmer box will happen. we're way overdue for a boxset.

anyway, Summertime's page has been updated with a new trailer and new stills. we're close!

Summertime now states "Blu-ray cover by Lauren Tamaki; DVD cover by Gordon Reynolds".

Looks like they're just taking their sweet, sweet time announcing today... [-o<

It's the wish list of someone with no insider status and zero knowledge as to which companies own the rights to which films. But it's nice to know that Carnac the Magnificent agrees with my wishes. Now that I'm on your good side, please tell me if any of them are correct.
