Looks like a young Kate Winslet... Also have they run out of films to release that this is coming out? Hoping to catch someone who mistakes this for a Crouching Tiger mixed with Match Point?

Looks like a young Radha Mitchell to me.

I see the Winslet resemblance, too. The only interesting thing in an otherwise boring art.

Anyone seen Cinderella Liberty? I flat-out loved The Last Detail, definitely interested in another Daryl Ponicsan navy yarn. (I own Last Flag Flying but disliked the novel enough that I haven't gotten around to watching it...)

RE: Cinderella Liberty

I saw it on it's release - granted, I was a budding 17 year old cineaste and hope that I have become somewhat more sophisticated (whatever that means), but it was rather turgid (though Eli Wallach, was, per usual, great).

The color palette is darker (though I suspect the initial Sony DVD was a lot paler and more subdued than one would expect for a film of the era), but wow at that increased detail-- look at the comparison of Betty Garrett talking to Kurt Kaznar on the stoop-- you can actually see her shirt's pattern now!

That's great news for Gloria ! I was excepting this one (like "Love Streams") to be released one day by Criterion.
I still own the Sony DVD zone 1 US with the "color ending".
Do we have a bit of info via Twilight Time if this could be the "untouched" movie with the ending more "ambigious" in black & white instead of color like the Sony DVD ?? :-k
The Sony DVD had only the color ending...
some infos here (with some excerpts of interviews) (warning - spoilers) :
http://people.bu.edu/rcarney/cassoncass/gloria.shtml

apparently, it seems that there had been a "projection test" (with a fifthy-fifhty approvement by the "projection-test-audience" for black & white and color) theatrical release has the ending in color...
Does that imply that the theatrical release has the end in color ? I can't find an HDTV transfer around...

I remember that I was a bit suprised to see Bill Conti in the opening credit (I will always associate Bill Conti to Rocky's soundtrack) recording the music for this movie instead of Bo Harwood who recorded such melancholic piano suites (Woman Under Influence, The Chinese Bookie (not only piano like the haunting "Rainy Fields Of Frost And Magic" but some furious rock-slide-guitar (which reminds me Jack Nitzsche with Ry Cooder on Paul Sharader "Hardcore"...) - was Bill Conti a studio choice? or was John Cassavetes OK with that ? - I would have dreamt of isolate music/soundtrack on "...Chineese Bookie".

the remake with Sharon Stone was irrelevant; if not pathetic. I prefer by far the Luc Besson "variation" with "Leon" (especially the extended cut) (not to mention Natalie Portman).

I remember watching Gloria about five years ago and finding it laughably awful, with even worst performances except for Gena Rowlands. That kid especially

I've also liked this film and respect your view - you are far from alone in the dislike of the child actor in the film, I remember at the time of the release he was the main gripe people had with the film. You should maybe track down the 1999 Sidney Lumet remake starring Sharon Stone. It is virtually unwatchable.

Does anyone know who has the U.S. rights to "Minnie and Moskowitz?"

Wouldn't it be Lionsgate since the OOP DVD was released by Starz/Anchor Bay? If so, could mean it's in a similar hell as Solondz' Happiness, etc.

It's with one of the labels KL has a deal with, because they were asked about it on the Blu-ray forum and they said they don't have it
