Mildred Pierce [4K]
Last Hurrah for Chivalry
Inland Empire (Booklet)
Chilly Scenes of Winter
I really like
Chilly Scenes' in hand, and how the insert art plays off of the cover's.

Seems odd to abandon the digipak seven releases into Lynch's filmography.

It's pretty fitting, considering he abandoned film stock for standard-definition digital with this final film. Why wouldn't Criterion honor the artistic choice with the same quality shift in packaging treatment?

Probably has to do with the price increase for paper and cardboard than anything deeper.

I'm just being silly, though I wouldn't put it past Lynch to stipulate the packaging change as a novel avenue for him to implement artistic reflexivity

This.
The Blu-ray only version of
Lost Highway was also in a Scanavo, while the UHD was a digi. I think this was also the case for
Malcolm X.

I'm thrilled that this box set is coming out, but I have mixed feelings about the art. I like the colors - and overall aesthetic - of the booklet, but I feel that using that same pattern (ie - the screenshot collage composed with triangles) on the cover was a mistake, especially when it's framed in a circle. And obviously Pasolini has to be on the cover, but I can't be the only one to feel like they could've used a better picture of him (I get that it's supposed to be a younger Pasolini, but still.)
That said, these are nitpicks at best. I am 100% going to get this collectors set, and I hope they release more sets like it.

I presume that what you're seeing is the actual booklet in a die-cut slipcase, so what you're looking for is a complete package rethink.

I agree about the picture. They should have used this beefcake shot:

But no, the picture they used is fine. He’s handsome, nicely lit, in profile, and he looks just like Pasolini in the 60s.

It's hard to tell but it looks more compact than the Fellini set. And maybe a little thicker

I spy slots at the top of each page, so it does seem like it could be similar in size to the Varda and WKW sets, rather than a behemoth like the Bergman. Looking forward to buying this for half off with a $50 coupon in about 6 months.

I'm going to slip the Blu-ray artwork for Rules of the Game into the 4K package and keep it on my shelf. What a massive downgrade.

seriously, the BD cover was perfect after the TV drama boxset nonsense of the DVD era cover. why did they think it needed to be changed at all?
The Servant is a very bad cover

The Servant is indeed hideous. For such a beautifully shot film, using just any old frame grab would be preferable to this.
I guess The Princess Bride was an intern mistake for announcing this month. They took it off the home page now. So I'm guessing that as next month's UHD upgrade. Hopefully they keep the packaging as is.

I'm game for a
Princess Bride UHD, that definitely works as a big selling July title. they certainly have to keep the packaging, no?

Co-signed. This is terrible. The BD was perfect.

Yeah if it was flat it would be a downgrade but doesnt the artwork for Rules of the Game suggest you're getting a glossy embossed digipak?

Intern #1 is on his way out the door with The Servant artwork. He gets a call on his cell. Emergency at home. Sets the artwork down on a table.
Intern #2 after a night of partying barfs all over the artwork. Too sick to work. Goes home.
Intern #3 several hours later retrieves the artwork and delivers it to the printer.
(Yeah. I know it's all digital these days.)

Keeping the BD cover for Rules of the Game too. Massive facepalm! On June's evidence, they also let all the good designers go. Yup, I'm in a foul mood today.
