Based on my own depressingly extensive experience of manufacturers failing to follow simple instructions, I’m inclined to believe Twilight Time over this.

Yeah, the “totally incompetent” seems way over the top. A simple “due to manufacturer error” would have worked just fine.

There might even be a clause on their contract stating they cant talk shit about them publicly like this. In any case, if I was Technicolor, I'd probably make TT's future days a bit more difficult, just for the sake of it.
It's a blunder, and blunders happen, but you cant just publicly insult your manufacturer like that.

Got my copy of the Adventures of Hajji Baba and while the picture and sound quality are generally excellent, it is yet again another TT transfer that is way too dark/cool-- this is a movie of ridiculously lush colors, why would anyone try to dampen that? Still, it's some kind of miracle that this got a Blu-ray release at all (probably because TT wanted to highlight the Tiomkin score) and overall it's obviously better than the only other 'Scope version circulating, a letterboxed hard-French-subbed DVD-R from TV. Just wish TT would lighten up, literally....

It's an awful movie

I believe McCarey stated that he walked off the film in disgust due to studio interference with the script and the production, and an assistant oversaw the final week's shooting. The released film was edited without McCarey's involvement.

I'd much, much rather see his previous film (Rally ’Round the Flag, Boys) on Blu-ray.

Satan Never Sleeps (Leo McCarey 1962) McCarey’s still at it with his histrionic anti-Communist hardlining in this astonishingly misguided tale of William Holden and Clifton Webb’s Catholic missionaries in China facing off against the People’s regime. The film is frequently structured and filmed as a comedy, though no film has ever been less funny, and the pacing and overall filmmaking is so torpid that there are long passages of the film where it is wholly unclear whether McCarey is filming the comedic or dramatic parts of the story. The last third of the film is also an incredible exhibition of rape apology, because the film wasn’t already bad enough by that point.
