I don't think any of those characters got pregnant and had to decide what to do about a baby in the face of the feckless men in their lives.

(Granted I would agree that the cover isn't a particularly big deal as it is not a film particularly about abortion - although that question does get briefly raised - and is more about a woman trying to make her way in the world. The pram is a looming inevitability rather than a Schrodinger's baby carriage. I just thought it was quite amusing to put the end result front and centre on there!)

I heard a rumor that Criterion was going to also have an alternate photo of just sheets on 50% of the digipaks... but there was quantum decoherence on the way to the printer.

I think it is spare but striking with elegant typography, and it suits the film quite well. That little ligature above the ‘st’ is cutely evocative of the spiraling camera movements in the film. Can’t say I’d really want an “exciting” cover for it (I really dislike that Japanese poster above).

As someone who hasn’t seen the movie I look at that and think “what am I even looking at”, so I don’t think it’s terribly effective.

I also have not seen the movie and don't know what I'm looking at, but on the contrary I find that intriguing and it makes me want to see the film to find out.

Other than the fake whale, the only other key art I’ve ever seen has been a guy walking down a shadowy street. It’s so bland as to represent pretty much half the films made in the last 80 years.

How many artful boutique covers effectively explain a movie to audiences ignorant of its contents? Images can also be effective without comprehension of the full context

I equate this to Criterion's choice of the Stalker cover. Lots of great imagery and they chose the fingers. Same with Werckmeister Harmonies. No reason you have to stick to a movie poster image, unless that's what Tarr wants.

I really like the TIFF poster. But the "Jonah" poster isn't bad. Analogy... it looks like you want a "how-to" or self-help book whereas the graphic designer is trying to write poetry. Good for him. Don't tag lines or synopses exist to tell you what the movie's about?

I only just noticed this yesterday when I randomly browsed the listing on their site and have no idea how long its been there but I don't recall it being there when it was first announced?

I have just received my combo UHD+Blu-Ray of "Branded To Kill": like it is written in the back of the case, in the booklet it is written that the transfer is the new 4K restoration, but they don't specify what transfer is used for the Blu-Ray disk (which is printed in 2023 - as printed on the disk); I guess the only way to check it out is to try the blu-ray disk.

Going through the Criterion subreddit, I found a post that showed it on May 15th, so that’s when it most likely was put, or maybe it was there since the start.

the Time Bandits lenticular slipcover has returned with the UHD

We say it a lot here, but the booklet cover really should have been the actual cover!

I actually really wish they would have changed the Walkabout cover
