For some strange reason that I cannot comprehend, I am currently watching
S2E2 of
Ain't it Cool with Harry Knowles. For some strange reason in his rant about the 1941 Academy Awards he keeps referencing some film called
How Green Was Your Valley. Never heard of it.

Apparently cool film criticism also involves rapidly spitting out the word "Friggin'" about ten times in as many seconds.

Hey, Citizen Kane was robbed. Just because the Academy was bought and ruled in its favor doesn't make it my valley.

Well, that was...something. What, I don't know. As fun as that was, I just hope that his life wasn't made hell by bullies for making that video.

From the conclusion of Martin Liebman's
4-star review of Unbroken:
Unbroken is living proof that the best stories are those that soar, that exemplify the best man has to offer even in the face of his worst.
He dependably heaps lavish praise on any Christian/religious film, regardless of merit.

This is from Liebman's bio page:
Martin Liebman has been an avid movie collector and home theater enthusiast since the mid-1990s, having owned hundreds of LaserDiscs, DVDs, and Blu-rays. Martin is a graduate of Texas Christian University. He earned the distinction of graduating Magna Cum Laude, majoring in both Political Science and History with studies in Technical Writing. Martin is very interested in pursuing a full-time career as a writer and is very excited to be reviewing for Blu-ray.com. His natural writing ability is well-suited to the review of film and the technical aspects of the Blu-ray format.

Netflix Canada recently added the complete series of "A Different World", and the first viewer review starts thusly:
Not usually a fan of segregationist TV shows that are non-inclusive but this no-whites-allowed college was pure hilariousness when you ignore the racist admissions criteria and just focus on the comedy.

mkham6 from RI begins a review of
Summer Lovers on IMDB with :
Sweet Classic about Mange a Trois on perfect summer isle
This is a wonderful movie- described by many as an escapist fantasy, but letter perfect in it's depiction of the awkward relationship of European-adventuring couple Gallagher + Darryl Hannah in her most resplendent role (Rent this one-she is nude in 60% of it and have no idea how they pared it down for AMC), the difficult mechanics of a 3-way relationship, the sexual politics of the steamy Greek Isles, the carefree tentative joy of gorgeous twenty somethings on the loose in paradise.
The location on the fabled Greek Island of Santorini (Thera) is breathlessly beautiful- it was annihilated in 1600 BC in a titantic volcanic explosion that wiped out the whole Eastern Med, and probably the source of Atlantis legends- 10 years later ('92) I visited (maybe subconciously from the movie) and still think it's the most beautiful place in the world- 1000 ft. cliffs with 10 stories of whitewashed interconnected blue-roofed buildings in a brilliant white strip along the top (town of Fira), black sand beaches on outer side, 2500 ft central mountain w Roman/Hellenistic/Dorian acropoli, entire intact buried Minoan city (Acrotiri-prominently featured) with 3 story bldgs and gorgeous color frescos- a Pompei that's twice as old, central volcano in the middle of grotto, impossibly aquamarine Agean, 7000 years of habitation. I blew through 5 36-exp rolls of film in the first day and burnt myself right through 30 SPF though it was March (the sun reflects off the whitewashed bldgs), which was a nice change from the Russian winter I'd just endured. The Greek Isles are sybaritic mating Shangri-La's for Europeans, packed with spectacular slick semi-naked Euro women (mostly Mikinos).
I'll spare you the rest, except to say that 25 out of 27 people found it useful.

The last film I saw that was about a "mange a trois" was La grande bouffe.

I think my favourite reviews right now are all of the one star reviews on Amazon for A Most Violent Year complaining that the film is not that violent, which is of course true, but that's apparently the only reason why they watched it to begin with.

Why Can't Oscar Isaac Have a Nice, Quiet Year? just doesn't have the same ring to it.

I have to be honest that is a great line to describe the movie. Very funny.

As directors, Donen and Kelly found the right chemistry, which is why the film worked despite a watered-down script and Roger Edens' workmanlike but ultimately uninspired songs. (Think about it. What do you remember from the film beyond "New York, New York"—which Leonard Bernstein wrote?)
Yeah, who remembers those lousy songs from one of the greatest film musicals ever?

I also find the music to the movie version of this musical pretty lousy compared to the music Bernstein had previously written for the same show (almost all of which got dumped in the movie).

Blu-ray.com reviewer Brian Orndorf gives notorious bomb The Adventures of Ford Fairlane 4.5 stars in his review of the barebones catalog release and the whole thing is bizarrely written as if the film were a huge success and hit:
Handed the spotlight and the services of director Renny Harlin (fresh off his success with "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master"), Clay made the most out of a rare opportunity, infusing the script with his own quirks and callbacks, creating a character not unlike his stage persona, set loose in a wildly entertaining detective yarn.
Okay.
