Hope it's a little easier to get the case out for the blu-ray version.

Obviously they couldn't match the size, so I'll just repeat the lovely comment.

I think he's referring to the 8-track because the sleeve is now in a standard sized amaray instead of the double wide one so the thickness is equivalent to that of the 8.

Chris - is the Criterion logo and spine number on both sides of the spine, or just the slipcover?

It's just on the slip. The keepcase's spine is similar to the DVD's where it looks like a video cassette label.

I was hoping I could display that side out, but my spine number issues will preclude that yet again...

So the Blu-ray keepcase does not have the spine number, even though the DVD keepcase did?

I got my copy of Night of the Hunter today, miraculously without any creases on the spine. And yeah, the outer sleeve is maybe 1/32nd of an inch too wide but I'm not sure that I'd call this The Great Travesty of Our Times.
Also, no one seems to have mentioned it, but the releases for the last couple of months have been wonderfully easy to open--not only without the security tape along the top side, but also with shrinkwrap that, with a proper tug, just slips right off as easily as a sexual analogy that I'm not prepared to make. Bravo, Criterion!

The spine number is on the keepcase, similar to how the DVD's is (
third picture down) I forgot to take a pic and will do so when I get a change.

BBC looks wonderful. See, it is possible when the right resources are put in place.

Nice packaging for Cronos but they excelled themselves with the BBS set.

I think a set of this range and quality deserves a better outer box. I would have expected an outer box similar to MoC's Dr Mabuse or Naruse, or Criterion's own box of the 3 Dreyer films. For whatever reason, Criterion seems to repeatedly choose an inferior quality outer box. That comment applies to everything from Eclipse boxes to a full-priced release such as the BBS Story (though of course I would accept different solutions to a lower-price offering than a full-price one). Outer box protects what is inside, so a rigid outer box is not a luxury - it is an essential component of a high-quality package. The comment from Knives ("Everything is bent") corroborates that.

The box is at least MOC thick, but these mini-digis bend easily and the width of the outer leaves no room.

My set arrived as best as can be expected from BN.com. Nearly all digipaks arrive bent to the side a bit-- my Parks and Recreation season two set also arriving today did too, and all I had to do was bend it in the other direction-- soooo harsh! I don't get the bellyaching, but then again, I was there on the frontlines for the Rohmer set debacle, so there's just no talking to me

I don't know if this question goes here, but I'll ask it anyways: Is Criterion still selling the replacement plastic cases with cover art for The Third Man?

The fake covers thread is locked, so I'm putting this here: some pretty funny
fake covers from a tumblr I saw linked from outside of the film geek universe.
Ernest Goes to Jail is an instant classic.
Also: I had no idea that Sidney Poitier was responsible for
Ghost Dad!

Guess they must have glossed over that one at the Honorary Oscar Award ceremony a few years back.

Cosby stars in it, Poitier (sadly) did indeed direct it. I'm sure he never speaks of it.
